Why this cardboard steamer makes a difference day to day
Window decorations in summer, nautical decorations for a party table or crafting with children on a rainy afternoon: with a finished basic shape, a vague idea quickly becomes a visible result. You won't get stuck on templates and wonky cut edges. Instead, you have an even ship motif in front of you, just waiting for your personal touch. In a short time, you'll have a decoration that really looks like you made it.
Material & finish
The steamer is made from 1.2 mm solid board in bookbinding quality. It's the same material that keeps book covers stable. The surface is smooth. The laser cut leaves the edges brown and finely defined, so the motif has a calm, clear outline. Because the board is untreated, acrylic paint, coloured pencil, varnish and glue adhere well. Every cutout comes from our own production at Bütic in Pößneck. Neatly finished and made in Thuringia.

- Crafting with children: each child paints their own steamer. In the end, a whole colourful fleet sails across the windowsill.
- Making a money gift: attach banknotes to the steamer as a smoke trail or cargo. That way you can wrap travel money for a cruise or a seaside holiday right on the motif.
- On the party table: small steamers as place cards for a nautical-themed christening, birthday or wedding. Every guest finds their seat with a smile.
- As a garland or table scatter: combine several sizes, thread them together or spread them on the table. The sea and sailing theme then runs through the whole room.
- In your business: in the shop window of a travel agency, café or shop, the ship silhouette sets a summer theme. It's quick to hang up, can be decorated any way you like and is good value in larger quantities as a set.
Good to know about the steamship
In the 19th century, steamships made sea travel independent of the wind for the first time. Long voyages across the Atlantic could be planned, and the steamer became a symbol of new beginnings and wanderlust. That's exactly why the motif suits travel money gifts, farewell parties and any decoration meant to stir a little longing for the sea.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Simply store the untreated board in a dry place and protect it from prolonged damp. It will then keep its shape and smooth surface over many craft projects. If you varnish the finished motif, it becomes even more resistant.
