Why this cardboard rat makes a difference in everyday life
Ready-made decorations always look a bit like everyone else's. A cardboard blank becomes your own piece: in your colours, with your technique, to suit your occasion. Use it as table scatter on the party table, as a hanging decoration in the children's room or as a recurring motif at a themed party. The rat fits in rather than taking over. And because you choose the size, it also matches the scale of the rest of your decorations.
Material & finish
The rat is made from bookbinding board. This is a solid board you may know from sturdy book covers. At 1.2 mm thick and 755 g/m², it feels noticeably heavy and stiff in your hand. It stands up to paint, glue and varnish without warping like thin craft card. The laser cut gives smooth edges and clean outlines. So the motif looks finished even before you work on it. The board is made from 100 % recycled material and is produced in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the cardboard rat
- Crafting with children: every child paints their own rat. At the end of the birthday party, they take home a keepsake they decorated themselves.
- As table scatter: spread small rats between plates and candles. Your themed party has a consistent theme from the very first glance.
- As a stencil: place the outline, trace around it, done. This lets you transfer the motif in the same shape every time onto walls, fabric or paper.
- As a hanging decoration in the children's room: drill a hole, thread a ribbon through and hang it up. A little figure your child painted themselves floats above the shelf.
- In a shop or café: with sets of 10 or more, you can decorate a shop window or counter for a promotion in one consistent style. Same motifs, any size you like, quick to set up.
Good to know about the rat
In the Chinese zodiac, the rat is the first of the twelve signs. It traditionally stands for cleverness and skill. That makes the motif more than just a craft figure. It suits birthdays of people born in the Year of the Rat. It also works for readings, crime evenings or themed parties about nimble city dwellers.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Store the untreated board in a dry place and keep it away from constant moisture. Then it keeps its shape and strength. A coat of paint or varnish makes the surface more durable for long-term use as decoration.
