Why this cardboard shooting star makes a difference in everyday life
Your idea turns into a finished result faster. You don't have to find, print and trace a shooting star template first. You hold the finished shape in your hand and can focus fully on decorating it. When you craft with children, everyone stays relaxed, because nobody struggles with tricky outlines. And if you combine several shooting stars, all the shapes match – they are all cut exactly the same.
Material & finish
The shooting star is laser-cut from firm, solid bookbinding board. That's where the typical brown edges come from. They are part of the natural look of the untreated board. The surface is smooth. It takes paint, varnish, decoupage or glue well, so you can decorate it just the way you like. At 1.2 mm thick and 755 g/m², the board is much firmer than craft card and doesn't warp easily. Every shape is made in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia – and neatly finished.

How to use the cardboard shooting star
- At a wedding: You write your guests' names on small shooting stars. The place card becomes a keepsake that many guests take home.
- At a children's birthday party: Every child gets to paint their own shooting star. In the end, a self-made starry sky hangs in the window. No cutting out, and no need for you to prepare a shooting star to cut out.
- For an engagement or Valentine's Day: A shooting star with your wish written on it lies on the laid table. A small gesture that people remember.
- As a shooting star craft template: You trace the outline onto paper, fabric or window film. That gives you as many even motifs as you like for garlands and window pictures.
- In your shop: In a bakery, café or shop, large shooting stars up to 50 cm decorate the shop window for Advent and the festive season. They are quick to hang, can be painted any way you like and are easy to redecorate for the next season.
Good to know about shooting stars
If you see a shooting star, you can make a wish. This custom has been alive for centuries. That's exactly why the motif suits weddings, birthdays and christenings so well. When guests write their best wishes on the back, the decoration becomes a lasting reminder of all the good wishes of the day.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Store the untreated board in a dry place, and it will keep its shape and look good for a long time. Avoid constant moisture. If the shooting star is going to hang outdoors or somewhere damp, a coat of paint or varnish protects the surface.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint or decorate the shooting star? Yes. You can paint, varnish, write on and stick things to the smooth, untreated surface – with acrylic paints, pens, decoupage or glitter.
Are the brown edges a flaw? No. The shape is laser-cut, which creates the typical brown edges. They are part of the natural character of bookbinding board.
Is the shape suitable if I want to make a shooting star craft? Yes, in two ways. You can decorate the finished shape directly. Or you can use it as a stencil and trace the outline onto paper or fabric.
Can the shooting star go outside? The board is untreated and should be protected from moisture. For outdoor use, we recommend a protective coat of paint or a covered spot.
Cardboard and millimetres are only where it starts. What counts is the moment your hand-decorated shooting stars hang in the window and someone stops to look at them. Just choose your size and quantity – and get started.
