Each square is made from 3 mm birch plywood and laser cut. This gives smooth edges and clean, precise results. At Bütic we lacquer the raw sheets ourselves on both sides, in our own production in Pößneck. First comes a coat of light blue. On top goes a clear, water-based satin-matt lacquer that keeps the wood grain visible. Wood is a natural material. Differences in shade, small knots and fine structures in the grain are part of it. They make every piece unique and are not a defect.

Good to know about birch plywood

Plywood is made from several thin layers of wood glued together crosswise. This makes it much more stable than a single layer of wood of the same thickness. That's why this birch plywood, just 3 mm thick, is so good for crafting. It stays light and is easy to hang up. But it doesn't warp as quickly as solid wood of this thickness.

Care & durability

There's not much to do. If needed, simply wipe the squares with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid constant moisture and harsh cleaners. That way the colour and the satin-matt surface stay looking good for a long time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint and write on the squares? Yes. The satin-matt surface, lacquered on both sides, is well suited to painting and writing. It's ideal for name tags, place cards or your own designs.

Are both sides lacquered? Yes. Every square is lacquered in colour on both sides and also finished with a clear, water-based satin-matt lacquer. So hanging decorations can be shown from both sides.

Why don't all the squares look exactly the same? Wood is a natural material. Shade, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece. That's exactly what makes every square one of a kind.

How accurate are the sizes? The squares are laser cut accurately to size. If you choose a height of, for example, 10 cm, the width is also 10 cm.
