Why this red Dala horse makes a difference in everyday life
In the window, on the sideboard or on a gift: the bold red stands for winter and cosiness. No further decoration is needed. You don't have to decorate much. A single horse already changes the mood on the shelf. And if you like to make things yourself, you're holding a cutout that looks lovely before you've even started.
Material & finish
The Dala horse is made of 3 mm poplar plywood and laser-cut in Bütic's own production in Pößneck. That's why the edges are smooth and precise, with the typical brown rim. This rim gives the silhouette extra definition. The red glaze covers well. Depending on the light, the wood grain and small knots still show through. Wood is a natural material, so every piece turns out a little different. That makes every horse one of a kind. Only the front is glazed. The back is left natural and untreated.

How to use your Dala horse
- Making Christmas decorations with children: each child decorates their own horse with dots and swirls. At the end, they proudly take home a piece they designed themselves.
- On a gift: tie a small 3 or 5 cm horse to the ribbon. Your parcel then needs no gift tag to stand out.
- On the windowsill: stand or hang several sizes side by side in a row. Your window then looks like a little Scandinavian scene.
- Making Christmas cards: stick a mini horse onto the card. A simple card becomes a small keepsake that people hold on to.
- In a shop or café: the red silhouette is quick to set up in a window display or on the counter. It's easy to swap for the season. With sets of 10 to 100 pieces, you can plan for larger areas too.
Good to know about the Dala horse
The Dala horse comes from the Swedish province of Dalarna. Carved, red-painted wooden horses have been a tradition there for centuries. Today it's one of the best-known symbols of Sweden. So the silhouette isn't just for Christmas. It suits any home that loves Scandinavian interiors, all year round.
Care & durability
There isn't much to do: an occasional dry dusting is enough. The back is untreated, so the horse doesn't like constant moisture. Kept indoors, it holds its colour and shape for many years.
