Material & finish

We make the disc from 3 mm birch plywood in our own production in Pößneck. We paint the raw boards in colour on both sides ourselves. The colourless, satin-matt, water-based clear lacquer seals the surface. It lets the grain and knots show through. This is exactly what makes every disc one of a kind. Wood is a natural material. The grain may turn out lighter or darker, and small knots are part of it. This is not a flaw. It is simply the nature of the material. The laser cut gives you smooth, accurate edges. So you can work with the plywood disc straight away, without any preparation.

Good to know about birch plywood

Plywood is made of several thin layers of wood glued together crosswise – hence its German name “Sperrholz”: the layers “lock” each other against the natural movement of the wood. Care & durability

There's not much you need to do: simply dust the lacquered, clear-sealed surface with a dry cloth now and then, and the disc will keep its even, satin look for a long time. Avoid constant moisture – as with any wooden product.

Frequently asked questions

Is the disc really lacquered on both sides? Yes, the front and back are colour-lacquered and additionally sealed with water-based clear lacquer – you can display either side.

Can you still see the wood under the black colour? Yes, the satin clear lacquer lets the grain and small knots show through. This keeps the natural character visible, and every disc is unique.

Do I need to sand the edges? No. Thanks to laser cutting, the edges are smooth and precise – you can carry on working with the disc straight away.

Why don't all the discs look exactly the same? Wood is a natural material: brightness, grain and small knots vary from disc to disc. That's exactly what sets them apart from plastic – not a flaw, but nature.
