Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The miners' club celebration is coming up and the tables are set. But one piece is still missing: something that shows everyone what today is all about. A Schlägel & Eisen (the miners' hammer and pick) made of HDF is just right for this. It is untreated and ready to paint. You design it exactly the way you like, in your club colours, with names or a year. This turns a simple cutout into a keepsake with a real local connection.
What changes for you
- You design the motif exactly as you imagine it. The MDF surface is untreated, so you can paint, decorate or glaze it.
- You get clean results without extra work. The edges are laser-cut and smooth, so there is no sanding or deburring.
- You'll find the right size for every project. Choose from 5 cm for small hanging tags up to 50 cm for wall decoration, in 1 cm steps.
- You can plan bigger events with ease. The cutout comes single or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces.
- You hold a piece of honest handiwork. Every cutout is made to order in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.
Why this MDF cutout makes a difference in everyday life
There's plenty of ready-made decoration. But little of it stands so clearly for mining and mining tradition. With the mallet & iron motif, you bring a piece of home to the table, the wall or a gift. And you design it to suit your occasion. Whether you craft with children, at your club or at home, you create something no bought decoration can replace: a one-off with a story.
Material & finish
The cutout is made from a 3 mm high-density fibreboard (HDF/MDF). It is sturdy enough to hang, stand up and decorate, yet easy to work with. Laser cutting gives a clean outline to DIN 21800. The edges are smooth and don't fray. The board is left natural, neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, glue and pens adhere well, and you decide on the look yourself. As with any fibreboard, the fibres vary in shade and may show small irregularities. This is not a defect. It makes every piece a one-off.

How to use your mallet & iron
- Before the club anniversary: You paint the cutouts together with the members. At the end, every guest takes a personal keepsake home.
- Crafting with children: The smooth edges and handy shape make painting easy. Afterwards, a self-designed piece of mining tradition hangs in the children's room window.
- As a gift with a local connection: You add a name and date to the motif. You give something you can't buy anywhere else.
- In model making: The fine outlines suit dioramas and layouts featuring collieries and mine tunnels.
- In your shop or at the Christmas market: As shop decoration with a mining motif, your counter tells the story of the region. You can hang it up or stand it up in a few minutes.
Good to know about hammer & pick
Mallet and iron are the traditional hand tools of miners. The iron was placed against the rock, and the mallet struck it. Crossed, the two tools have been the symbol of mining for centuries. DIN 21800 still sets out how they are depicted today. That's why the motif suits club parties, St Barbara's Day celebrations and gifts for miners. It fits wherever you want to show mining tradition.
Care & durability
There's not much to do. Simply dust it dry when needed. The fibreboard is untreated, so it's best stored dry, away from constant moisture. This keeps the surface flat, and you can keep decorating it at any time. A varnish or glaze of your choice gives the motif extra protection.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the cutout or stick things on it? Yes. The board is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, pens and glue adhere directly to the surface.
How tall is the motif at a given width? As a reference: at 10 cm wide, the height is 8.8 cm. The other sizes scale in proportion.
Why don't all the surfaces look the same? HDF is made from pressed wood fibres. These vary in shade and may show small irregularities. That is exactly what makes each piece unique.
Can I return the item? No. Each cutout is produced for you in the size you ordered after purchase. It is therefore excluded from exchange.
Are there quantities for clubs or events? Yes. Besides single pieces, you can order sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces. All come in the width you need.
What matters is the moment someone picks up the piece you designed. They know straight away where it comes from and what it stands for. Just choose your size. We then make it especially for you.
