Material & finish

The letters are made from dark real wood veneer, 0.6 mm thick, and laser-cut in Bütic's own production in Pößneck. This gives them the typical brown edge, which outlines each character finely. The edges are cleanly cut, so you can put the letters up straight away. Wood is a purely natural material. Colour, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece. This is what makes your lettering unique – it is explicitly not a defect.

There's not much you need to do. The letters come to you in their natural state and stay looking good for a long time in dry indoor rooms. If you paint or oil them, you choose the colour and finish yourself. However, keep the thin veneer away from constant moisture.

• Important note on size: the chosen height applies to capital letters. Lower case letters are made to the same scale as in the font, so they are shorter. An example from the Arial font at 10 cm: the capital O is 10 cm high, the lower case a 7.3 cm, the lower case h 9.7 cm. The lower case g is 10 cm high but reaches about 2.6 cm below the baseline. So order all letters for one word in the same size. That way, upper and lower case letters match.
