Each character is made of dark real wood veneer only 0.6 mm thick. This makes it light and easy to glue. On a wall or door, it sits almost flush. Every piece is laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck. The brown rim on the cut edges comes from the laser process. It gives the outlines their clear definition. Wood is a purely natural material. Colour and grain always vary a little, and small knots may occur. This makes every character one of a kind, not faulty.

Good to know about veneer

Veneer is real wood cut into wafer-thin layers – here just 0.6 mm thick. The natural grain stays visible. At the same time, the characters are feather-light. With a little glue, they can be attached even to delicate surfaces such as doors, frames or cards.

There isn't much you need to do. Just keep the untreated veneer dry and dust it carefully when needed. Oiling or painting it gives the surface extra protection, and you choose the colour yourself. Avoid constant moisture. Then the characters keep their shape and look for a long time.

Frequently asked questions

Why do the characters have a brown rim? The numbers and special characters are laser-cut. The brown rim on the cut edges comes from this process and is part of their typical appearance.

Can I paint or oil the characters? Yes. The veneer is unfinished and can be decorated with paper or stickers, painted or oiled. You can also glue and drill it.

Why is my full stop so much smaller than the numbers? Small punctuation marks are made to the same scale as in the font. So a full stop is, by design, much smaller than the number height you choose.

Do all characters look the same? Not quite – wood is a natural material. Colour, grain and small knots vary slightly. This makes every character one of a kind.
