Material & finish

Each letter is laser-cut from 3 mm poplar plywood and made in Bütic's own production in Pößneck. The laser cut gives clean, precise outlines. It also leaves the typical brown edge that gives the characters their distinctive look. Wood is a purely natural material. Its shade varies, it shows its own grain and it may have small knots. This makes every piece unique and is not a defect. The back has transparent 3M transfer tape with strong adhesion. If you prefer screws, you can also drill the characters.

• Important: the height you choose applies to capital letters and numbers. Small special characters such as full stop, comma or hyphen are made to the scale of the font. So they are much smaller. For example, a full stop at 10 cm in the Arial font is only about 1.4 cm.
• For a word or sentence, order all characters in the same size so they match.

Can I colour the letters? Yes. The front is left natural and can be covered, painted or oiled – ideally before you put them up.

How do the letters stay on the wall? The back has transparent 3M transfer tape with strong adhesion. Alternatively, you can drill and screw the characters.

Why are full stop, comma and hyphen smaller than the height I chose? Small special characters are made to the same scale as they are in the font. So they are much smaller than the chosen height. This way all characters stay in proportion to each other.

Do all letters look exactly the same? Wood is a natural material. Shade and grain vary slightly, and small knots are normal. This is what makes every letter unique.

Where do the letters come from? Every character is laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck. That's also where the typical brown edge comes from.
