Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong.Biology class is about to start. Your lab team's wrap-up party is coming up. Or you're looking for themed decorations for your child's science party. And you still need a motif that everyone recognises straight away. With this wooden DNA strand model, you hold the classic double helix as a silhouette in your hand. It's made for your next moment of discovery. You design the DNA strand just as you like: painted, with things glued on or simply left natural.
What changes for you
- You get a motif that everyone understands straight away. The silhouette shows DNA as the classic double helix.
- You design it freely to suit your idea. The untreated wood can be glued, painted or oiled.
- It always fits your project. You choose the height yourself, from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps. That covers everything from a small hanging decoration to a large stand-up display.
- You can plan larger activities with ease. Sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces are available, for example for a whole school class or a team event.
- You can carry on without sanding. The laser cut leaves smooth edges.
Why this DNA strand model makes a difference in everyday life
An abstract topic like genetic information becomes tangible as soon as you hold it in your hand. On the craft table, on a gift or as a decoration on a shelf: the stylised double strand makes science visible in the room. It does so quietly and naturally, without you having to explain much. An idea about research and molecules becomes something you can touch and give as a gift.
Material & finish
The 3 mm poplar plywood is light in the hand and easy to work with. The DNA strand is laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck. This gives it the typical brown edge that picks out the outline. The edges are smooth and need no further finishing. The wood is left untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. This means paint, glue or oil stick reliably. As a natural material, each piece shows its own grain. Some are lighter, some darker, and some have small knots. This makes every cutout one of a kind, not faulty.

How to use the DNA strand
- In the classroom: each pupil designs their own strand. The topic of deoxyribonucleic acid stays in their memory as a hands-on model they made themselves.
- Crafting with children: paint it, decorate it, hang it up. In the end, a colourful molecule hangs in the children's room, and your child proudly points it out.
- As a gift: for a passed exam, a doctoral thesis or the biology fan among your friends. It's a small token that is understood straight away.
- For practices, labs or pharmacies: combine several sizes in the shop window or at reception. This themed decoration is set up in a few minutes and shows your field clearly.
- For events and conferences: with the set of 50 or 100, you can decorate tables or prepare guest gifts in a uniform style. You don't have to cut out each piece yourself.
Good to know about the double helix
Since James Watson and Francis Crick described it in 1953, the double helix has been the ultimate symbol of the life sciences. That's exactly why the motif works so well. It suits graduation parties in biology and medicine as well as decorations in practices and labs. And it's recognised everywhere at first glance.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Store the cutout in a dry place and avoid constant moisture. That way, the untreated wood keeps its natural look for a long time. If you paint, oil or varnish the surface, you protect it further. You also decide the colour and finish yourself.
Variants & what's included

Frequently asked questions
Is the wood treated? No, the poplar plywood is untreated – neither varnished nor glazed. You can glue, paint or oil it straight away.
Where does the brown edge come from? The DNA strand is laser-cut. This creates the typical brown laser edge that picks out the outline. The edges are smooth.
How wide is the cutout? The width depends on the height you choose. For example, at a height of 10 cm it is 5 cm wide.
Why do the pieces look different? Wood is a natural material with its own grain and shade. Small knots are normal. This makes every cutout one of a kind.
A wooden cutout can start a conversation. Someone recognises the motif, smiles and asks where you got it. Simply choose your height and quantity – and get started.
