Why this wooden fish makes a difference in everyday life
Ready-made decorations look the same everywhere. A wooden fish you've designed yourself shows your own hand. Use it as wall decoration in the bathroom or as a garland in the children's room. Or turn it into a craft project with kids. The simple shape leaves room for your idea. The light poplar plywood sets the tone from the start. The result is decoration that feels like home, not mass-produced.
Material & finish
The fish is laser-cut from 3 mm poplar plywood, which gives it the typical fine brown edge – it looks like a subtle outline and saves you painting the edges afterwards. The cut edges are smooth and the finish is clean, so you can happily hand the blanks to children. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed: it's up to you whether you paint it, oil it, decorate it or keep the natural look. And because wood is a purely natural material, every cutout turns out slightly different – sometimes lighter, sometimes darker, occasionally with small knots or variations in the grain. That's exactly what makes each piece unique.

How to use your wooden fish
- At a craft afternoon with kids: every child paints their own fish – and by the end, a whole colourful shoal of wooden fish is swimming across the pinboard.
- In the bathroom: put a few wooden fish in different sizes on the wall or on a shelf. The room instantly feels like the seaside.
- At nursery and school: for a project about the sea and the ocean, every child gets the same basic shape – you save preparation time and the results still look perfectly consistent.
- For table decorations and gifts: add a name and the little fish becomes a personal place card or tag that stays on as a keepsake after the celebration.
- In a shop or café: as part of a summer-themed window or counter display, the blanks are quick to decorate and just as quick to swap out again.
Good to know about the fish
The fish is one of the oldest Christian symbols: the early Christians used it as a sign of recognition long before the cross became common. That's why the wooden fish doesn't just suit seaside decorations – it's also lovely for christenings, First Communions and confirmations, for example as table scatter, a place card or a craft motif for the celebration.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do: simply store the untreated cutouts somewhere dry and keep them away from constant moisture, and they'll keep their shape and light look for a long time. Painting or oiling the surface makes it even more resistant.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint or decorate the wooden fish? Yes. The wood is untreated and in its natural state – you can paint it, oil it, stick things on it and decorate it with standard craft paints.
How tall is the fish at the width I choose? The proportions stay the same: at a width of 10 cm, the fish is 4 cm tall. From this you can work out the height for any other width.
Why do the cutouts look slightly different? Wood is a natural material: brightness, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece – a sign of real wood, not a defect.
What's the brown edge about? The fish is laser-cut, which creates the typical dark edge. It ensures a clean, smooth cut surface and looks like a fine outline.
In the end, it's not about a plywood cutout. It's about the moment a simple shape becomes your idea – a colourful shoal of fish in the children's room, a lovingly made place card for a First Communion, a hint of the sea in the bathroom. Just choose your width and quantity – and get started.
