A rainy afternoon, and the craft table is ready: paints, brushes, glue. In the middle sits an emu wooden cutout, just waiting for your ideas. Do you want to paint the emu, decorate it or stand it up as it is? The laser-cut plywood silhouette is made for your next craft project. A plain wooden blank becomes a window decoration, a learning animal for nursery or the centrepiece of an Australia project.

What changes for you

  • You can start straight away, with no sanding or finishing. The emu is laser-cut and has smooth edges.
  • You decorate it just the way you like. The wood is untreated. You can paint it, stick things on it, coat it or oil it.
  • You'll find exactly the size that suits your project. Choose any width from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • Crafting with a whole group is easy too. The emu comes singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
  • You are holding carefully made craftsmanship. It comes from our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

Why this emu wooden cutout makes a difference every day

Ready-made decorations often look the same everywhere. An emu you decorate yourself shows your own style. Crafting with children also gives you a reason to talk about Australia and its animals. And at the end, there is something that someone really made. These small, self-made pieces end up on windowsills, in group rooms or in classrooms – clearly made by hand.

Material & finish

The emu is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood. It has the brown edge typical of laser cutting, which gives the silhouette a neat outline. The edges are smooth and the finish is clean. So you can hand the cutout straight to children. Wood is a natural material, so every piece turns out a little different: sometimes lighter, sometimes darker, with fine grain patterns or small knots. This is not a flaw. It makes every emu one of a kind.

How to use the wooden emu

  • Crafting with children: Each child paints their own emu. At the end, they proudly take home an animal they decorated themselves.
  • At nursery or school: For topics like Australia, the zoo or safari, the cutout becomes a hands-on learning motif. It is easier to grasp than any worksheet.
  • As a window decoration: Hang a few emus in different sizes in the window. The view outside gets a playful frame.
  • For decorating gifts and cards: Stick on a small emu, and your gift instantly feels more personal.
  • For shops or market stalls: Use larger cutouts to create themed displays about Australia or animals. They are quick to set up and can be rearranged as often as you like.

Good to know about the emu

The emu is Australia's national animal and even appears on its coat of arms. Hardly any other animal stands for Australia so strongly. With its ostrich-like silhouette, the cutout suits all projects about Australia, the zoo and safari. You can also use it wherever an ostrich motif is needed.

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do. Keep the untreated cutout dry and away from constant moisture. Then the plywood will keep its shape for a long time. A coat of paint or oil gives the surface extra protection. It also gives it exactly the shade that suits your decoration.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the emu straight away? Yes. The wood is untreated and takes paint well. You can also stick things on it, coat it or oil it.

Do I need to prepare the edges? No. The cutout is laser-cut and has smooth edges. You can start decorating straight away.

Why is the edge brown? The brownish edge is created during laser cutting and is typical of this process. It brings out the outline of the silhouette.

Why don't all the cutouts look the same? Wood is a natural material. Colour, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece. That is exactly what makes every emu unique.

How tall is the emu? The height depends on the width you choose. For reference: at 10 cm wide, the emu is 9.5 cm tall.

Picture a painted emu hanging in the window and someone asking: "Did you make that yourself?" Just choose your width and quantity – and get started.
