Why this armadillo wooden cutout makes a difference every day
Shop-bought decorations often look the same everywhere. A motif you design yourself tells your story. With the armadillo, you bring an animal motif to the craft table that gets people talking. Children's eyes light up when they craft with it. In the end, you have something hanging or standing in your home that exists only once.
Material & finish
The armadillo is laser-cut from 3 mm poplar plywood in our own production in Pößneck. The laser cut gives clean, smooth edges, so nobody gets splinters. It also leaves the typical brown edge that frames the figure. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. So it is ready straight away for paint, decoupage or glue. As a natural material, every piece is unique. Different shades, fine grain patterns and small knots are not flaws. They are what makes wood come alive.

How to use the wooden armadillo
- Crafting with children: Each child gets an armadillo and colours in the shell bands. After an hour, a whole herd is hanging in the window.
- As a gift tag: Write a name on a small 5 cm figure and tie it to the parcel. Your present stands out before it's even unwrapped.
- At nursery or school: With the set of 25 or 50, every child has the same motif on project day. And you don't have to cut anything out.
- For shop window and store decoration: A large figure up to 50 cm high, painted to your concept, draws attention to your display. It's quick to set up and can be redesigned again and again.
- For zoo animal fans and themed parties: Painted, decorated or oiled, the armadillo stands on the birthday table.
Facts about the armadillo
The armadillo gets its German name, "Gürteltier" (belt animal), from the movable shell bands that wrap around its back like belts. In Spanish it is called "armadillo", the little armoured one. These distinctive bands are marked as contours on this cutout. You can colour them stripe by stripe in different colours. Ideal for little artists who love clear areas to colour in.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Store the untreated wood in a dry place and protect it from constant moisture. Then it keeps its shape and light colour for a long time. If you paint, oil or glaze it, you decide how the surface will look and how well it is protected.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the armadillo straight away? Yes. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. Paint, glue, oil or wood glaze adhere without any preparation.
Are the details pre-marked? Yes. All contours, such as the shell bands, are marked with shallow laser cuts. They serve as a guide when colouring in.
Why does the figure have a brown edge? The brown edge is created during laser cutting and is typical of this cutting method. It frames the motif and also gives smooth edges.
Does every armadillo look the same? The shape is identical, the wood is not. As a natural material, it shows different shades, grain patterns and small knots. Every piece is unique.
How wide will the figure be? As a guide: at a chosen height of 10 cm, the width is 8 cm.
What really counts is not the piece of plywood. It's the moment your child proudly holds up their colourful armadillo. Or when your own figure makes the room feel a little more like you. Simply choose your size and quantity, and the next craft afternoon can begin.
