How to use the wooden hippo

Good to know about the hippo

Flusspferd or Nilpferd, as it's called in German – both mean the same animal. Even the scientific name Hippopotamus translates as “river horse”. Care & durability

There isn't much you need to do. Keep the untreated wood dry and it will keep its natural look for a long time. If you paint, varnish or oil it, you give the surface extra protection. You also choose the colours yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the hippo straight away? Yes. The plywood is untreated, so it is neither varnished nor glazed. Paint, glue or oil stick directly to the surface.

Why does the cutout have a brown edge? The shape is laser-cut. This creates the typical dark edge that neatly frames the silhouette. The edges are smooth and don't need sanding.

How tall is the hippo at my chosen width? The height depends on the width: at 10 cm wide, the height is 5 cm. Other sizes follow the same proportions.

Do all cutouts look exactly the same? The shape does, the wood not quite. As a natural material, it can be lighter or darker and may show small knots. Every piece is unique.
