A birthday is coming up. The advent calendar needs filling. Or you're looking for a small gift for someone who adores their dog. And you still haven't found the right idea. This wooden basset is made for moments like these. It's a lovingly shaped dog silhouette in plywood. It's untreated and ready for painting, gluing and decorating. You can turn the simple cutout into a door sign, a gift tag or table scatter.

What changes for you

  • You can start crafting straight away. There's no sanding or finishing needed, because the basset is laser-cut and has smooth edges.
  • Your decoration becomes truly your own. The untreated wood takes paint, varnish, oil and glue with ease.
  • You'll find exactly the size your project needs. Choose from 3 cm for table scatter up to 50 cm for a door sign, in 1 cm steps.
  • For bigger projects, you can skip ordering pieces one by one. That helps when crafting with children or in a club. Sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 are available.
  • You give something meaningful. For fans of this breed, the silhouette is a small gesture that says more than any greetings card.

Why this wooden basset makes a difference in everyday life

Something homemade feels different from something bought off the shelf. It shows that someone put thought into it. The wooden basset lets you do just that, without much preparation. The shape is ready, the design is up to you. Use it as a name sign on a child's bedroom door, as a tag on a present or as a motif for Christmas crafts. The result looks thoughtful and heartfelt.

Material & finish

At 3 mm thick, the plywood is pleasantly light in the hand. It is still sturdy enough for tags, signs and stick-in decorations. Laser cutting creates the typical brown edge that neatly outlines the silhouette. The edges are smooth, so nothing splinters or scratches. The wood is completely untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. Paint adheres well, and you decide on the finish yourself. Wood is a natural material, so every piece turns out slightly differently. Variations in shade, fine grain patterns or small knots are not flaws. They make every piece unique. The basset is made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the wooden basset

  • Crafting with children on a rainy afternoon: each child paints their own dog. At the end, a colourful dog parade hangs in the window.
  • As a gift tag for dog lovers: write a name on it and thread a ribbon through. The parcel brings a smile even before it's unwrapped.
  • For Christmas crafts: scatter small bassets of 3–5 cm across the festive table. Your guests will have something to discover at every place.
  • For money gifts: paint the basset and fold a banknote into a neckerchief. A plain envelope turns into a story.
  • In a dog grooming salon, dog school or pet shop: use large silhouettes from 30 cm as shop decoration or as a sign you can write on. They're quick to set up, easy to recognise and friendly.
  • As a door sign for your home: 50 cm wide, with your family name on it. It gives visitors a friendly welcome.

Good to know about the basset

The name basset comes from the French word “bas”, meaning “low”. It refers to the short legs that make this breed so distinctive. Everyone recognises this striking silhouette with its long ears at first glance. That's why the motif works so well as a door sign, tag or gift for anyone who loves this easy-going four-legged friend.

Care & durability

There isn't much you need to do. Kept dry, the untreated wood keeps its natural look for a long time. Avoid constant moisture. If the basset is going to hang outdoors, a coat of paint, varnish or oil helps protect the wood.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint or decorate the basset? Yes. The wood is untreated and in its natural form. You can paint, oil, decorate and write on it.

Why does the cutout have a brown edge? The edge is created during laser cutting and is typical of this cutting method. It neatly outlines the silhouette. The edges are still smooth.

How tall is the basset at a given width? The height depends on the width. At 10 cm wide, the silhouette is 7 cm tall.

Does every piece look the same? The shape does, the wood not quite. As a natural material, it shows different shades, fine grain and occasionally small knots. This makes every piece unique.

Is the cutout suitable for outdoor use? Untreated, it belongs in a dry setting. With a protective coat of paint, varnish or oil, you can also use it in sheltered outdoor areas.

Picture the moment someone spots the little painted dog on their present. They know straight away: this was made for me. Just choose your size and quantity. You design the rest.
