Why this wooden thistle makes a difference every day
Shop-bought decorations often look the same everywhere. A motif you design yourself tells your own story. With its distinctive silhouette and wood tone, the thistle brings a natural calm to your table, windowsill or wreath. You decide whether it stays natural or shines in your favourite colours. That is what makes your decoration your own.
Material & finish
The thistle is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood. It has the typical fine brown edge. This edge frames the motif and gives the silhouette its outline. The wood is left in its natural state, not varnished or glazed. So you can paint, oil or decorate it, just as your project needs. Wood is a natural material, so every piece turns out a little differently. Some are lighter, some darker, each has its own grain and some have small knots. This makes every thistle one of a kind. It's not a flaw, it's simply natural wood.

How to use the wooden thistle
- Crafting with children at the kitchen table: everyone paints their own thistle. At the end, a colourful row hangs in the window and everyone is proud of it.
- For your autumn decorations: scatter a few small thistles between candles and twigs. Your table is then laid in natural and autumn shades.
- For making wreaths: work the silhouette in between dried flowers. Your door wreath then carries a shape you designed yourself.
- In a café or at a market stall: use large thistles in your window and counter displays. Your display looks lovingly made without a long set-up.
- As a small gift: tie a painted thistle to the ribbon. Your parcel instantly has a personal detail.
Good to know about the thistle
For centuries, the thistle has stood for steadfastness and protection. In Scotland it is even the national flower. So the motif suits more than your autumn decorations. It also makes a small token for people you wish strength.
Care & durability
There's not much to do. Keeping it dry is enough for the thistle to keep its shape and look for a long time. As the wood is untreated, avoid constant moisture. If you want to use it outdoors, a coat of paint or oil protects the surface.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the wooden thistle? Yes. The plywood is untreated. You can paint, oil, glaze or decorate it.
Why does the thistle have a brown edge? The motif is laser-cut. The fine brown edge is typical of this process. It also means smooth edges with no sanding needed.
Do all thistles look the same? The shape is identical, the wood is not. As a natural material, it varies in shade and may show small irregularities in the grain or knots. Every piece is one of a kind.
How wide is the thistle? The width depends on the height you choose. For reference: at a height of 10 cm, the thistle is 6.5 cm wide.
A wooden cutout is only the start. Picture your own decoration on the table and guests asking where you got those lovely thistles. Just choose your size and quantity. Then start creating.
