Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The windowsill is waiting for spring decorations. This year, the Easter table should show something special. And you are looking for a craft idea that offers more than painted cardboard. A broken wooden egg is made for exactly that. The cracked eggshell comes in two parts and is ready for your ideas. Add a hatching chick, your guests' names or bright colours. A simple wooden cutout becomes an Easter decoration you will bring out again every year.
What changes for you
- You can start painting, decorating or writing straight away. The plywood is untreated and natural, so it takes paint, glue or oil well.
- Your decoration always fits the space you have. Choose a height from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps. From table scatter to a large window decoration.
- You can craft without any finishing work. The edges are laser-cut and smooth. No sanding is needed, and there is no risk of splinters when crafting with children.
- With two parts, you can tell a little story. Arrange the broken shell open, as if something has just hatched.
- Larger projects are easy to supply too. You can order the egg individually or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
Why this broken wooden egg makes a difference in everyday life
Ready-made decorations often look the same everywhere. A wooden egg you design yourself shows your personal touch. Use it in the window, on the spring table or as a take-home gift from a craft afternoon. The plywood feels slightly rough and light. It smells of wood and looks different from smooth plastic decorations. You choose the size and design yourself, so the result fits your home exactly.
Material & finish
The broken egg is made of 3 mm thick plywood. It is laser-cut in our own production at Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia. The laser leaves smooth, clean edges with the typical brown rim. This rim clearly traces the outline of the broken shape. Even unpainted, it stands out against the light wood. The wood is untreated, not varnished or stained. So you are free to decorate, paint, coat or oil it. Wood is a natural material. Brightness and grain vary slightly from piece to piece, including small knots. This makes every egg one of a kind, not faulty.

How to use the broken wooden egg
- Crafting with children before Easter: each child paints their own eggshell. At the end, a colourful parade of chicks hangs in the window.
- On the Easter table: scatter small eggs of 3 to 5 cm between plates and napkins. The table looks lovingly laid with little effort.
- As a place card or gift tag: write or paint a name on it. Every guest finds their seat and has a small keepsake.
- In a shop window, café or at the bakery counter: use large eggs up to 50 cm as wall or window decorations. Your spring decorations are up quickly, and you can reuse them next year.
- Our design idea: Arrange the two parts as a cracked eggshell with a painted or glued-on chick hatching from it. Use it as a window decoration, on the wall or directly on the spring table.
Good to know about the egg
For centuries, the egg has been a symbol of new life and new beginnings. That is why it is still a firm part of Easter traditions today. A broken egg with something hatching tells this story very clearly. So it suits not only Easter, but also spring celebrations, christenings or decorations for a new baby.
Care & durability
There is not much you need to do. Store the untreated wood in a dry place and keep it away from constant moisture. Then it keeps its shape and light look for many years. Painting or oiling it gives the surface extra protection. That way, the decoration will last you season after season.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint or decorate the wooden egg? Yes. The plywood is untreated, not varnished or stained. You can paint, decorate, coat or oil it.
Where does the brown rim on the edges come from? The eggs are laser-cut. This creates the typical brown laser rim with smooth, clean edges.
Is the egg really made up of two parts? Yes. Each broken egg consists of two parts. You can arrange them open or put together.
Why do the eggs look different? Wood is a natural material. Brightness, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece. Every egg is one of a kind.
Which size suits my project? As a guide: at a height of 10 cm, the egg is 7 cm wide. Small heights from 3 cm work well as table scatter. The large sizes up to 50 cm suit window and wall decorations.
A wooden cutout is only the starting point. Then comes the afternoon of painting and gluing at the kitchen table. And the Easter decorations you made yourself, which everyone is a little proud of afterwards. Just choose your height and quantity. The rest happens at your home.
