Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong.A rainy afternoon. The craft table is set, and the paints and brushes are ready. All that's missing is something that does more than an ordinary wooden cutout. The EinStein V2 wooden tile is made for moments like this. It's a puzzle shape that lets you cover surfaces without gaps. And the pattern never repeats. Crafting with children, decorating or working on your own wall picture becomes a small adventure in geometry.
What changes for you
- You lay patterns that never get boring. The EinStein V2 tile fills any surface without gaps, and no periodic pattern emerges.
- You no longer need mirrored tiles. The V2 shape works without mirroring. All pieces are the same and still fit together.
- You design freely, just as you imagine. The untreated wood can be painted, decorated with glued-on items, coated or oiled. No preparation needed.
- You get exactly the size that suits your project. Choose a width from 3 cm to 50 cm in 1 cm steps, individually or as a set.
- You work with clean, smooth edges. Each tile is precisely laser-cut, so the pieces fit together exactly.
Why this wooden tile makes a difference in everyday life
Use it as wall decor, as a puzzle on the coffee table or as a teaching aid in maths lessons. With these tiles you create something that exists only once. You can start small and let the surface grow piece by piece. Every finished pattern shows how you laid it. The natural wood has a light, even grain and feels smooth in your hand.
Material & finish
Each tile is laser-cut from 3 mm poplar plywood. This gives it the typical brown edge that traces the shape. The edges are smooth and cleanly finished. The pieces are pleasant to handle and fit together exactly. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, glues and oils adhere to it particularly well. As a natural material, every tile has its own grain. Some are lighter, some darker, some have small knots. This is not a flaw. It's what makes every piece one of a kind. The tiles are made in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the EinStein V2 tile
- Crafting with children: each child paints their own tiles. At the end, you lay them together into one shared picture.
- As wall decor: paint the tiles in the colours of your home and glue them into a pattern that is guaranteed never to repeat. Your guests will want to talk about it.
- Making Christmas decorations: small tiles painted gold or red become hanging ornaments and table scatter. You can enjoy them again every year.
- In lessons or a maths club: with a set of 25 or 50 tiles, you make aperiodic tilings tangible. Geometry on the table, not just on the board.
- As a gift for puzzle fans: a set of untreated tiles to design yourself. Something to do and decoration in one.
Good to know about the EinStein tile
The EinStein V2 tile was developed in 2023 by Craig S. Kaplan, Joseph Samuel Myers and Chaim Goodman-Strauss. It builds on the first EinStein tile and solves a mathematical puzzle that is decades old. It is a single shape that covers a surface without mirroring, without gaps and without repetition. That's what makes it a special gift for maths enthusiasts. It's also exciting material for school, decorating and creative projects.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the tiles or glue things onto them? Yes. The poplar plywood is untreated. You can paint it, glue things onto it, coat it or oil it as you like.
Do I need mirrored tiles for a gap-free pattern? No. The V2 shape is designed to cover a surface without gaps and without mirroring. All tiles are identical.
Why do the edges have a brown rim? The tiles are laser-cut. The brown rim is typical of this cut. It also comes with smooth, clean edges.
Do all tiles look the same? In shape, yes. In the wood, not quite. As a natural material, every tile has its own grain and shade. Every piece is one of a kind.
How big exactly is one tile? You choose the width yourself. The height follows from the shape: at a width of 10 cm, it is 6.83 cm.
