The birthday party has a safari theme, the craft table is set with paints and brushes – and all that's missing is the motif that will make everyone's face light up. With the wooden meerkat, you've got a figure that seems made for afternoons like this: a clear silhouette with an outlined face, ready to be painted, embellished and decorated. Whether as table scatter on the birthday table, as a window decoration or for your next project crafting with kids – this little lookout instantly puts everyone in a good mood.

What changes for you

  • You can start painting, oiling or embellishing straight away – because the plywood is untreated and natural, and takes any paint well.
  • Your decoration always fits, from table scatter to window figure – because you can choose the height freely from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • You'll recognise the meerkat at a glance, even before you add anything yourself – thanks to the face and contours etched onto the top side.
  • There's no need for sanding – because the laser cut leaves smooth edges that feel pleasant to the touch.
  • You can plan larger projects with ease, for nursery or a children's birthday party, for example – because the motif is available individually or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.

Why this wooden meerkat makes a difference every day

Ready-made decorations often look generic. A motif you design yourself tells your own story instead. With the meerkat, you bring a piece of natural material to your table, your window or your craft project. You decorate it exactly the way that suits your occasion. That way, a simple cutout becomes a little figure that makes guests and children smile.

Material & finish

The meerkat is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood. This gives it the typical brown edge, so the figure looks handmade. The top shows the face and outlines as fine cut lines. The underside is left natural. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. So you can paint it, oil it or stick things on it, just as you like. As a purely natural material, every piece is unique. Differences in shade, small knots and fine structures in the grain are not flaws. They are what makes wood come alive. Every figure is made in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the wooden meerkat

  • Crafting with kids: Each child paints their own meerkat – and proudly takes home a keepsake they designed themselves at the end of the afternoon.
  • On the birthday table: Small figures scattered between plates and glasses – and the safari theme runs right across the table.
  • In the window: Hang up a larger meerkat as a window decoration – and the little lookout greets everyone who passes by.
  • At nursery and school: The children paint the figures for projects on Africa, the zoo and safari – and the theme wall fills up bit by bit with their own creations.
  • In shops or cafés: Painted and placed in the shop window or on the counter – a themed decoration that's quick to set up and stands out from off-the-shelf products.

Good to know about the meerkat

Zoologically, the meerkat is also known as the suricate – it's famous for its upright stance, which it uses to keep watch for the group. It's exactly this silhouette that makes the motif so popular for safari birthdays, zoo projects and Africa themes: you recognise it at first glance, even as a small table scatter piece.

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do: keep the untreated wood dry and avoid prolonged moisture – that way the figure keeps its shape and looks good for a long time. If you paint or oil it, you decide on the finish and look yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint or embellish the meerkat? Yes. The plywood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed – you can paint it, oil it, stick things on or decorate it however you like.

Why does the figure have a brown edge? The meerkat is laser-cut. This creates the typical brown edge – a feature of the process that also gives you smooth edges without any finishing work.

Are the front and back the same? No. The top side shows the face and contours as etched lines, while the underside is left natural without any markings.

Does every meerkat look the same? The shape is identical, the wood isn't: as a natural material, it shows variations in tone, fine textures and occasionally small knots – making every figure unique.

How wide is the figure? The width depends on the height you choose. For reference: at a height of 10 cm, the meerkat is 5 cm wide.

In the end, it's not about a wooden cutout. It's about the moment when children line up their painted meerkats side by side and the whole table suddenly looks like an adventure. Simply choose your height and quantity – you'll design the rest yourself.
