Spring is just around the corner and the craft table is ready. Now you just need a motif to bring a little more life to your windowsill, table decorations or gift tags. A plywood finch cutout is made for exactly that. It's a clear bird silhouette in a natural shape. Paint it, stick things on it or simply hang it up as it is. A few blanks turn into your very own decorations.

What changes for you

  • You can start creating without any preparation. The wood is untreated, so you can paint, glue, varnish or oil it straight away.
  • You'll find exactly the right size for your project, from a small tag to a large window decoration. The width can be chosen from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • Crafting with children stays relaxed. The laser-cut edges are smooth and pleasant to the touch.
  • For larger projects, nurseries or craft groups, you get the right supply in one go. Order singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces.
  • The shape is recognisable at first glance. The typical brown edge from laser cutting gives the silhouette a fine outline.

Why this wooden finch makes a difference every day

You see ready-made decorations everywhere. A wooden bird you've designed yourself tells your own story. Hang it in the window, on a twig in a vase or as a tag on a present. The calm silhouette brings nature into the room without being too much. And because you choose the colour, size and design yourself, the finch suits your home exactly.

Material & finish

The finch is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood. This gives a precise outline with smooth edges and the typical brown edge on every piece. The wood is left untreated, so it is neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, glues and oils stick directly, with no sanding needed. As a natural material, each piece has its own shade and grain. Small knots may also appear. That makes every cutout one of a kind. The finch is made in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the wooden finch

  • Crafting with children: each child paints their own bird. In the end, a colourful flock of finches hangs in the window, and everyone is proud of it.
  • For spring decorations: hang a few finches on twigs in a vase. Your table looks inviting without much decorating effort.
  • As a gift tag: write a name on a small finch and tie it to the ribbon. Your present shows who it's for before it's even unwrapped.
  • In a café or shop: large silhouettes in the shop window or on the counter make a seasonal display. It's quick to set up and you can redesign it every year.
  • For nurseries, schools or craft groups: with the set of 25 or 50, everyone gets the same blank. You save yourself the drawing and sawing.

Good to know about the finch

Finches are among the best-known native garden birds. In Germany, the chaffinch is even one of the most common breeding birds of all. That's why the motif feels familiar straight away. It suits spring decorations, but also works all year round in the window, on the table and on a seasonal tree.

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do. Simply keep the untreated cutout dry and avoid constant moisture. The wood will then keep its natural look for a long time. If you paint or oil the finch, you also protect the surface and make the colours last.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the finch straight away? Yes. The plywood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, glues and oils stick without any pre-treatment.

Where does the brown edge come from? It comes from laser cutting and is typical of laser-cut wooden cutouts. It outlines the silhouette and can be painted over if you like.

Do all cutouts look the same? The shape is always identical, but the wood as a natural material is not. Shade and grain vary, and small knots are normal. Every piece is unique.

How tall is the finch at a given width? As a guide: at 10 cm wide, the height is 8.5 cm. The proportions stay the same for all sizes.

A piece of plywood is just the start. What counts is the afternoon when a few blanks, some paint and your ideas turn into decorations that exist only once. Simply choose your size and quantity – and get started.
