The children's birthday party is coming up. The craft table is set with paints and brushes. Now all you need is a motif that makes everyone beam. This wooden firefly is a decorative cutout made for your crafting afternoon. It has a clear silhouette, smooth edges and untreated wood that is ready for your ideas. Use it as a firefly decoration in the window, on a lantern or as a small gift. The plain cutout quickly becomes your very own favourite piece.

What changes for you

  • You can start crafting straight away, with no cutting or sanding. The firefly is laser-cut and has smooth edges.
  • Your decoration fits exactly where you want it, from table scatter size to a large single piece. You choose any height from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • You design the motif just the way you like. The untreated plywood can be painted, decorated, coated or oiled.
  • Larger projects are easy to plan too, such as crafting with children in a group or class. Sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces are available.
  • What you are holding is a piece of honest craftsmanship. It was made in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

Why this wooden firefly makes a difference every day

Ready-made decorations often look the same everywhere. A motif you design yourself tells your own story. With its round shapes and light natural wood, the firefly suits a child's bedroom, a windowsill or a summer party without looking overdone. You choose the size and design yourself. So each piece fits right into your home or your project.

Material & finish

The firefly is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood. This gives it the typical fine brown edge. The edge frames the silhouette and defines its outline, with no finishing needed. The edges are smooth, so children can craft with it safely. The wood is left untreated, so it is neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, glue and oils stick well, and you have complete creative freedom. Wood is a natural material and never completely uniform. Variations in shade, fine grain patterns and small knots are part of it. They make every piece one of a kind.

How to use the wooden firefly

  • Making lanterns in autumn: Stick a painted firefly onto the lantern. During the lantern procession, the light shines and the motif glows along with it.
  • Crafting with children: Each child gets their own firefly to paint. At the end, every child proudly takes home a keepsake they made themselves.
  • For a summer garden party: Combine several sizes on branches or a string of fairy lights. Your party gets a playful firefly decoration that makes guests smile.
  • As table scatter on the birthday table: Spread small fireflies between the plates. The table looks lovingly decorated with very little effort.
  • In a café, farm shop or market stall: In the shop window or on the counter, the natural wood motif draws attention to your summer promotion. It is quick to put up and can be reused each season.

Good to know about the firefly

Fireflies have always stood for warm summer nights and small moments of light. These are moments when you stop and marvel. That is why the motif suits anything to do with light. It goes well with lanterns for St Martin's Day processions, garden parties with fairy lights or as a friendly figure in a child's bedroom.

Care & durability

There is not much you need to do. Store the untreated wood in a dry place and keep it away from constant moisture. It will then keep its shape and look good for a long time. If you want to use it outdoors, paint or oil it first. This protects the surface better.

Frequently asked questions

Is the wood treated? No, the plywood is untreated – neither varnished nor glazed. You can paint, decorate, stain or oil it directly.

Where does the brown edge come from? The firefly is laser-cut. This creates the typical brown edge that finely frames the silhouette. It is not a flaw but a feature of this cutting method.

How wide is the motif? The width depends on the height you choose. At a height of 10 cm, the firefly is 7.5 cm wide. The proportions stay the same in all sizes.

Why does each piece look slightly different? Wood is a natural material. Shade, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece. That is what makes every firefly one of a kind.

Is the cutout suitable for outdoor use? Untreated, it is best kept indoors. If you paint or oil it first, you can also use it as a decoration outdoors.

A wooden cutout is only the starting point. What counts is the moment a child holds up their own painted firefly and beams. Or the moment your lantern glows in the dark. Simply choose your size and quantity, and you design the rest.
