Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The children's birthday party is coming up, and the theme is set: all things ocean. All that's missing now are the sharks for the garland, the table decorations and the party favours. This is where the wooden shark fin comes in. It's a laser-cut plywood cutout, made for your next afternoon of crafting. Simply choose the right height between 3 and 50 cm. A plain fin then becomes your seaside decoration motif.
What changes for you
- If you want to make a fish fin, you can skip the tedious sawing. The shape arrives ready laser-cut and uniform.
- You can start painting, sticking things on or writing on it straight away. The wood is untreated and comes in its natural finish.
- Your decorations match, from the garland to the table scatter. You can choose any height from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- When crafting with children, you can simply hand out the fins. The laser-cut edges are smooth, and nothing needs sanding.
- Larger projects are easy to supply too. The fin comes singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces.
Why this shark fin makes a difference day to day
A good craft idea often fails at the cutting stage. The shape ends up crooked, the edges fray, and in the end every piece looks different. With the ready-made wooden shark fin, you turn this around. You start straight with the fun part: decorating. On the birthday table, on the wall or as a dorsal fin on a larger craft project, the clear silhouette makes your decoration recognisable at first glance.
Material & finish
The fin is made of 3 mm plywood and is laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. The laser cut leaves the typical brown edge, which brings out the outline. It also gives smooth edges that feel pleasant to the touch. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, glue and oils stick to it without any preparation. As a natural material, wood is never completely uniform. Different shades, fine grain structures and small knots are part of it and make every piece unique.

How to use the shark fin
- At an ocean-themed children's party: scatter small fins across the table as table scatter. The shark theme is in place before the cake even reaches the table.
- When crafting with children: each child paints their own shark fin. At the end, a colourful garland hangs up that everyone is proud of.
- On larger craft projects: glue the fin on as a dorsal fin. A simple project becomes a recognisable shark.
- For ocean themes: combine fins in different sizes. This creates depth in your decorations, from the windowsill to the photo wall.
- In a shop or at a market stall: use painted fins to set up an ocean theme in the shop window or on the counter. With sets of up to 100 pieces, you can do this in larger quantities without long lead times.
Good to know about the shark fin
The dorsal fin sticking out of the water is probably the best-known sign of a shark. Hardly any silhouette is recognised so quickly. That is exactly why it works so well as a decoration motif. Even the plain, unpainted wooden cutout tells of the sea straight away, without any further explanation.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Simply store the untreated fins in a dry place and avoid constant moisture. This keeps the natural wood stable in shape and easy to paint. If you paint or oil the surface, you make it more resistant as well.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the shark fin or stick things on it? Yes. The plywood is untreated and in its natural finish. You can paint it, decorate it, stick things on it or oil it, without any pre-treatment.
Why does the fin have a brown edge? The cutout is laser-cut, which creates the typical brown edge. It brings out the outline and is part of the laser cut.
Does every fin look exactly the same? The shape does, the wood not quite. As a natural material, it varies in shade and may show fine structures or small knots. This makes every piece unique.
How wide is the fin at a given height? For reference: at a height of 10 cm, the fin is 9 cm wide. The proportions stay the same across all sizes.
A wooden cutout is just the starting point. What counts is the moment the children hold up their self-painted shark fins. The table then looks as if all the decorations came straight from the sea. Simply choose your height and quantity – you design the rest.
