At the end of October it gets dark earlier. A tealight flickers on the windowsill. And the children are already asking when you'll finally start decorating. Wooden Halloween lettering turns this afternoon into a small craft project. It's untreated, ready to use and just right for your craft or kitchen table. You paint it, stick things on and hang it up. By evening, your own Halloween decoration greets everyone from the window.

What changes for you

  • You can start Halloween crafts with your kids straight away – because the wood is untreated and paint, glue or glitter stick to it directly.
  • Your decoration fits its spot exactly, whether windowsill, door or buffet – because you choose the width yourself, from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • You get a cleanly finished piece with no need for sanding – thanks to laser cutting with smooth edges.
  • You can supply a whole craft group or children's party with no extra effort – because the lettering comes individually or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
  • You can see the letters clearly even before painting – because the outline is scored into the top side.

Why this Halloween lettering makes a difference in everyday life

Shop-bought Halloween decorations often look like plastic. Wooden lettering brings natural material and something homemade into your home instead. You decide on the colours and style. And every year the decoration comes back out of the box instead of ending up in the bin. The afternoon when everyone paints together at the table is just as much part of the decoration as the finished piece.

Material & finish

The lettering is made from 3 mm poplar plywood. It is laser-cut in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. Laser cutting gives smooth edges and the typical brown edge. This is a characteristic feature that gives the lettering a finely drawn outline. The wood is untreated, so neither varnished nor glazed. This means it takes acrylic paint, stain, oil or glue without any problem. As a purely natural material, every piece is one of a kind. Different shades, fine grain and small knots are part of it and are not a defect.

How to use the Halloween lettering

  • At a craft afternoon with the kids: Each child paints their own lettering in orange, black or purple. Then they proudly carry their work to the front door before the first trick-or-treaters ring the bell.
  • On the Halloween buffet: Place a large lettering piece between pumpkins and candles. Your table shows the theme at first glance.
  • In the window or on the door: Hung up with a ribbon, the lettering greets people from outside. Neighbours and trick-or-treaters know there's a party here.
  • In a café, bakery or at a market stall: A painted lettering piece on the counter completes your seasonal display. It's quick to put up, easy to store after the holiday and reusable next year.
  • In school, nursery or craft group: With a set of 10, 25, 50 or 100, everyone gets a blank. And you save yourself the cutting and preparation.

Good to know about Halloween

The name Halloween comes from "All Hallows' Eve", the evening before All Saints' Day, on 31 October. It has its roots in old Celtic customs marking the end of summer. That's exactly why the holiday still thrives on making things yourself – from carved pumpkins to handmade decorations. Wooden lettering follows this tradition. It makes your Halloween decoration something of your own instead of off-the-shelf goods.

Care & durability

You don't need to do much: Store the lettering in a dry place after the season, and you'll enjoy it for many years. As the wood is untreated, avoid constant moisture. If you want to display the lettering outdoors, you can paint or oil it first to protect the surface.

Options & what's included

  • Width freely selectable from 5 to 50 cm, in 1 cm steps

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the lettering and stick things on it? Yes. The poplar plywood is untreated, so acrylic paint, stain, oil and glue stick directly to the surface.

How tall is the lettering at my chosen width? The height depends on the width: at 10 cm wide, the height is 3 cm. Larger widths scale in the same proportion.

What is the brown edge along the sides? This is the typical trace left by laser cutting. It is part of the process, gives smooth edges and gives the lettering a clear outline.

Why don't all the letterings look the same? Wood is a natural material. Shade, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece. That is exactly what makes each lettering one of a kind.

Are both sides designed? The top side has the scored outline as a guide. The underside is left natural and smooth.

A piece of plywood becomes an afternoon of painting and giggling at the kitchen table. Then comes the moment your homemade Halloween decoration hangs in the window. Simply choose your width and quantity, and the crafting fun can begin.
