It frames the motif and is a natural feature of the cutout. The wood is untreated, with no varnish or glaze. So you can paint, decorate or oil it straight away. Wood is a natural material, so every piece turns out a little different. Some are lighter, some darker, and some have small knots in the grain. That makes every piece one of a kind.
