Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The craft table is set and the paints are ready. All that's missing is a motif that makes you want to get started. This wooden hot air balloon silhouette is just right for that. It has a clear shape and is untreated, ready for your ideas. Paint it, stick things on it or leave it natural. That's how a simple wooden cutout becomes your own decoration.
What changes for you
- You can start painting, decorating or writing on it straight away – because the plywood is untreated and takes paint, varnish and oil well.
- Your project gets exactly the right size – you choose the height freely from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- You save yourself any finishing work – because the laser cut leaves smooth edges that won't bother little hands either.
- You can craft with the whole group without stress – because as well as the single piece, there are sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
- Your decoration looks warm and homely rather than artificial – because real wood with its grain makes any surface look more natural.
Why this wooden hot air balloon makes a difference in everyday life
A wooden hot air balloon brings a bit of wanderlust and lightness into the room – in the nursery, at the window or on the gift table. Instead of mass-produced goods, you create something you've designed yourself. It fits your occasion exactly. And because the silhouette is so clearly drawn, it looks calm and tidy even unpainted.
Material & finish
The hot air balloon is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood. This gives it the typical, finely burnt brown edge that gives every cutout its character. The wood is untreated – neither varnished nor stained. That leaves all options open to you: paint it, oil it, decorate it or hang it up natural. Every piece is made in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. The finish is clean right up to the edges. Wood is a natural material, so every cutout turns out a little different. Some are lighter, some darker, with fine grain or small knots. That's exactly what makes each piece unique.

How to use the wooden hot air balloon
- Crafting with children: Each child paints their own balloon. In the end, a colourful fleet of balloons hangs in the window, and everyone is proud of it.
- Making money gifts: A small balloon as a tag on the envelope for the travel fund. The gift shows where the trip is going as soon as you hand it over.
- In the nursery: Hang several sizes staggered on the wall or as a mobile. The room gets a theme that grows with your child.
- For a christening or birthday: Add a name and date, and the cutout becomes a personal keepsake instead of a card that disappears.
- In a shop or café: Use it as window and counter decoration for a seasonal theme. It's quick to hang up and easy to rearrange. With larger sets, you can plan for the whole space right away.
Good to know about the hot air balloon
Since the Montgolfier brothers' first crewed flight in 1783, the hot air balloon has stood for setting off, wanderlust and big dreams. That's why the motif suits births and christenings so well. It also suits farewells and new beginnings. And of course any gift that gets someone in the mood for a trip.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Indoors, an occasional dusting is enough. As the wood is untreated, you should protect it from constant moisture. If you want to use it outdoors, a coat of paint or oil helps the surface look good for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Is the wood treated? No, the plywood is left natural – neither varnished nor stained. So you can paint, decorate, coat or oil it right away.
Where does the brown edge come from? The cutout is laser-cut. This creates the typical, slightly burnt edge. It's a feature of the process, and it also ensures smooth edges.
Do all cutouts look the same? The shape is always identical, but the wood isn't. As a natural material, it varies in lightness and grain and sometimes has small knots. Every piece is unique.
Is the balloon suitable for outdoors? Untreated, it belongs indoors. With a protective coat of paint or oil, you can also use it as decoration outside. You should still avoid constant moisture.
What counts is the moment when your hand-painted balloon hangs in the window and someone asks: “Did you make that yourselves?” Just choose your size and quantity – and let your ideas take off.
