A wedding money gift that isn't just tucked into an envelope. A mobile above the changing table. A garland for the nursery that truly comes from you. That's exactly what this wooden hot air balloon is made for: a clean plywood silhouette that you can paint, decorate or simply leave natural – as if made for your next craft idea. You choose the height from 3 to 50 cm, and the rest is up to you.

What changes for you

  • You can start creating straight away instead of sawing first – because every balloon arrives laser-cut and ready, with smooth edges.
  • Your paints, pens and glue hold reliably, as the wood is untreated and takes paint, wood stain or oil without any preparation.
  • You'll find the right size for every project – from a tiny 3 cm table scatter balloon to a 50 cm wall decoration, available in 1 cm steps.
  • Nothing can go wrong when crafting with kids: the laser-cut edges are smooth, so nobody needs to cut or sand.
  • You can plan bigger projects with ease, as the cutout also comes in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.

Why this hot air balloon cutout makes a difference in everyday life

Homemade things feel different from shop-bought ones. They are more personal, warmer and have a story behind them. With a clean wooden shape as your base, your result won't look like a crafting afternoon. It will look like lovingly made decoration that you're happy to give as a gift or hang up. Gift tag, window decoration or table decoration for a christening? The balloon gives you a ready-cut shape. You can paint it, stick things on it or hang it up straight away.

Material & finish

The hot air balloon is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood. This gives it the typical fine brown edge. The edge subtly frames the silhouette and gives it a clear outline, with no extra finishing needed. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. It feels pleasantly smooth in your hand. Wood is a purely natural material, so every cutout turns out slightly different. Some are lighter, some darker, with fine differences in the grain and occasionally small knots. This is not a flaw. It is exactly what makes every piece unique. The cutout is made in our own production at Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia, with clean, careful workmanship.

How to use the hot air balloon

  • Making money gifts for a wedding: attach the notes to the balloon – and the couple holds a gift that tells the story of taking off into their future together.
  • Crafting with kids on a rainy afternoon: every child paints their own balloon – and in the end, a colourful fleet hangs in the window that everyone is proud of.
  • For a birth or christening: several small balloons become a mobile above the cot – a decoration that stays and brings back the occasion every time.
  • Making an advent calendar: 24 small balloons as numbered tags – and the countdown to Christmas gets a motif you won't find in any shop.
  • In a café, shop or at the farmers' market: large balloons in the shop window or as price tag holders – your goods look lovingly presented, and setting up is quick and easy.

Good to know about the hot air balloon

Ever since the Montgolfier brothers' first manned flight in 1783, the hot air balloon has stood for new beginnings, courage and overcoming boundaries. That's exactly why the motif is so popular for occasions where something new begins: weddings, births, christenings, starting school or farewells – the balloon tells the story all by itself.

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do: store the untreated wood in a dry place and keep it away from prolonged moisture, and it will keep its shape and look for a long time. If you'd like to protect the balloon or change its colour, you can simply paint, oil or stain it – the natural wood takes everything well.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the hot air balloon or stick things on it? Yes. The wood is untreated and can be painted, decorated with glued-on items, coated or oiled without any preparation.

Why does the cutout have a brown edge? The balloon is laser-cut – the fine brown edge forms quite naturally in the process and is part of its typical look.

Do all cutouts look the same? The shape does, the wood not quite: as a natural material, it varies in brightness and grain, and small knots are possible. This makes every piece unique.

Is the balloon suitable for outdoor use? The wood is untreated and should be protected from prolonged moisture. For outdoor use, we recommend a protective coating, such as varnish or wood stain.

In the end, it's not about a wooden cutout. It's about the moment someone unwraps the gift you designed yourself and realises: you really came up with this just for me. Simply choose your height and quantity – and get started.
