Easter is getting closer, the spring table is waiting – and you're still missing a motif you can design to your own ideas. Wooden chickens are a classic for exactly that: this wooden chicken comes to you as an untreated plywood silhouette, ready to paint, decorate or embellish – just made for your next crafting session. You choose the colour, pattern and size, and in the end you have a piece of spring decoration that's truly one of a kind.

What changes for you

  • You can get started straight away, with no sanding or cutting beforehand – because the wooden chicken is laser-cut and has smooth edges.
  • Your design fits exactly where you want it. Use it as small table scatter or as a large window figure. You choose the height freely, from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • You can design it entirely to your taste, as the untreated wood takes paint, oil, varnish and glue well.
  • You'll have enough blanks ready even for large groups – with sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces for school, nursery or crafting sessions.
  • You get a clean finish from our own production. Every wooden chicken is made by Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia.

Why this wooden chicken makes a difference every day

Handmade decorations always tell a little story: your child's first painted chicken in the window, the hen in your favourite colours on the Easter table. Because you start with a ready-made blank, there's more time for the best part of crafting – the designing. And when your first guests ask where the chickens came from, you can say: I made them myself.

Material & finish

The chicken is laser-cut from 3 mm thick plywood, which gives it the typical brown edge – a hallmark of this cutting method that gives the silhouette a fine outline. The edges are smooth, so you can pick up the cutout and start painting right away. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed, so it's open to anything: painting, oiling, gluing, stamping. As a purely natural material, wood is never completely uniform – varying shades, fine textures in the grain and small knots are all part of it and make every piece unique.

How to use the wooden chicken

  • Easter crafting with the kids: each child paints their own chicken – and at the end, a colourful flock sits on the windowsill that everyone is proud of.
  • On the spring table: a few chickens placed among twigs and Easter eggs – and your table looks lovingly decorated without much effort.
  • At school, nursery or a crafting group: with a set of 25, 50 or 100 pieces, everyone has a blank in front of them straight away – no tracing, no sawing, the whole session is devoted to creating.
  • If you'd like to make wooden chickens yourself but don't own a saw: the ready-made cutout serves as your template and base – all you do is the creative part.
  • In a shop, café or at the bakery counter: painted wooden chickens in the window or on the counter get your customers in the mood for Easter – quick to set up and reusable year after year.

Good to know about the chicken

The hen has long been a symbol of care and new life – it's no coincidence that, alongside eggs and chicks, it's one of the classic Easter motifs. That's exactly why the wooden chicken looks so at home on the Easter table, in a spring window or next to an Easter basket.

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do: store the untreated wood in a dry place and avoid constant moisture, and your chicken will keep its shape for years. If you decorate it with paint or varnish, the surface is protected too – so your decoration will be with you for many springs to come.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the wooden chicken straight away? Yes. The plywood is untreated and can be painted, oiled, glued or decorated in other ways – no preparation needed.

Why does the chicken have a brown edge? The cutout is laser-cut, which creates the typical brown edge. The edges are smooth and don't need sanding.

How wide is the chicken at my chosen height? For reference: at a height of 10 cm, the width is 9.5 cm. The proportions stay the same for all sizes.

Do all the chickens look exactly the same? The shape does, the wood not quite: as a natural material, it shows varying shades, fine textures and occasionally small knots – that's normal and makes every piece unique.

In the end, it's not about a wooden cutout. It's about the moment your hand-painted chickens stand on the Easter table and someone asks where you got them. Simply choose your size and quantity – you'll design the rest.
