What changes for you
- You can start decorating straight away instead of sawing by hand. The motif arrives ready laser-cut with smooth edges.
- Your motif fits its spot exactly, whether on a windowsill or a stage set. You can choose any width from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- You're free to design it just the way you imagine – because the wood is untreated and can be painted, decorated, varnished or oiled.
- You can also supply larger projects such as nursery groups or parish craft sessions with no extra effort. Sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces are available.
- What you're holding is a piece of honest craftsmanship, made in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.
Why this wooden cutout makes a difference every day
Christmas decorations made from natural materials bring a calm, cosy mood to a room. Shop-bought decorations rarely do this. A baby Jesus you have decorated yourself in the window, on the door or on the festive table tells of the Holy Night. It also shows that someone prepared here with love. In Advent, when lots is happening at once, it is good when your decorations come together easily.
Material & finish
The baby Jesus is laser-cut from 3 mm poplar plywood. This gives it the typical lightly browned edge, which gives the motif a clear outline. The edges are smooth and the finish is clean. So you can also give the cutout to children to paint. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. It takes paints, glues and oils well. Wood is a natural material, so brightness and grain vary slightly from piece to piece. Small knots are possible. This makes every piece one of a kind.

How to use the baby Jesus
- For a nativity play at church or school: as a base for the stage set, a large version of the motif becomes the centre of the stage. The children recognise the scene at first glance.
- On an Advent afternoon at home: you put out brushes and paints and the children paint their own baby Jesus. By evening, a home-made window decoration hangs in the living room.
- On the Christmas table: a small motif at each place, perhaps with a name written on it. Your guests have something to keep before the meal even starts.
- For nurseries, after-school clubs or parish craft sessions: with sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces, every child has their own motif. You don't have to reorder single pieces.
- In a café or farm shop around Midnight Mass time: as a hanging ornament on a branch or in your shop window display, the natural wood adds a Christmas motif to your presentation.
Good to know about the baby Jesus
According to tradition, depicting the Christmas story with figures goes back to Francis of Assisi. In 1223 in Greccio, he had the nativity scene re-enacted. This was the origin of our nativity tradition. That is why the baby Jesus is still one of the most familiar motifs of the Christmas season. It suits a nativity play just as well as a window decoration or the gift table.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Store the cutout in a dry place and keep it away from constant moisture. Then you will enjoy it for many years. If you paint or oil the untreated wood, the surface gets extra protection. You can also match its colour to your decorations.

Frequently asked questions
Is the wood already treated? No, the cutout comes to you untreated – neither varnished nor glazed. So you can paint, decorate, stain or oil it as you like.
Where does the brown edge come from? The motif is laser-cut, which creates the typical browned edge with smooth sides. It is part of the process and gives the silhouette a clear outline.
How big is the motif at my chosen width? As a guide: at a width of 10 cm, the baby Jesus is 9 cm tall. The other sizes scale accordingly.
Do all pieces look exactly the same? The shape does, the wood not quite. As a natural material, it shows different shades, grain patterns and occasionally small knots. Every piece is one of a kind.
Picture the moment your hand-painted baby Jesus hangs in the window. That is when Christmas has arrived in your home. Just choose your width and quantity – you design the rest.
