Material & finish

The square is made of plywood and laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. That's where the smooth edges come from. So does the typical brown laser edge, which gives the cutout its handmade look. The surface is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. So you can paint it, stick things on it, coat it or oil it as you like. Wood is a purely natural material. Each piece has its own grain. It can vary in shade and may have small knots. That is exactly what makes every square one of a kind.

How to use the wooden square

Good to know about plywood

Plywood consists of several layers of wood glued crosswise. This means it warps much less than solid wood of the same thickness. For you, that means even a large 40 cm square with a narrow frame keeps its shape. It works well for hanging, gluing and painting.

Care & durability

There isn't much you need to do. Simply store the untreated wood in a dry place and protect it from constant moisture. If you paint, varnish or oil it, you also seal the surface. That way your finished piece will look good for a long time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the square or stick things on it? Yes. The wood is untreated and takes paint, varnish, oil and glue directly. No pre-treatment is needed.

Why is the edge brown? The squares are laser-cut. This creates the typical brown laser edge. The process also gives you smooth, clean edges.

Can I order my own inner size? Yes. As well as the 1 cm steps, you can also enter a custom inner size.

Do all squares look the same? Not quite. Wood is a natural material. Shade, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece. That is exactly what makes every square unique.
