The kitchen table is wiped down and the paints are ready. The children can't wait to start crafting together. Locomotive silhouettes in untreated plywood are made for afternoons just like this. You give everyone a shape. Bit by bit, a simple cutout becomes a little railway all of its own.

What changes for you

  • You can start straight away with no preparation. The plywood is untreated, so you can paint, decorate, stain or oil it directly.
  • You get exactly the size your project needs. You can choose any width from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • Your crafting session with children stays relaxed. The laser-cut edges are smooth, so there's no need for sanding.
  • You can plan bigger projects without reordering. The locomotive comes individually or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
  • Thanks to the clean finish and the clear silhouette, your finished piece doesn't look homemade.

Why this plywood locomotive makes a difference in everyday life

A shop-bought decoration looks the same in every home. One you design yourself tells your story. With this blank, you decide what it becomes: a colourful locomotive for a child's room, a name sign or a decoration for the windowsill. The result is decor that really suits you. And an afternoon together that people remember.

Material & finish

The locomotive is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood. That's where the smooth edges come from. It also explains the typical brown edge, which gives the shape a fine outline. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. That's why it takes paint, glue or oil well. Wood is a natural material, so every piece turns out a little different. Some are lighter, some darker, each with its own grain and occasionally small knots. That makes each locomotive one of a kind. It is made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the locomotive

  • Crafting with children: Each child paints their own locomotive. In the end, a colourful train runs along the windowsill in the children's room.
  • Making Christmas decorations: Paint small locomotives at 5 or 6 cm. Hang them up or tie them to presents. The gift table gets a detail you made yourself.
  • Making an advent calendar: Number 24 small locomotives and line them up. This gives you a calendar you can set up again every year.
  • As a money gift: Stick banknotes onto a large locomotive. That way the train journey or the model railway wish is handed over lovingly wrapped.
  • In a shop or café: Arrange several sizes in a staggered row in the shop window. It's quick to set up and easy to change with the seasons.
  • At nursery and school: With sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100, the whole group gets the same shape. No need to reorder several times.

Good to know about the locomotive

Germany's first public railway ran between Nuremberg and Fürth in 1835. Since then, the locomotive has lost none of its fascination, especially for children. That's why the shape suits more than just a child's room. It also works for birthdays of little railway fans and for farewell and travel gifts. It fits in the display cabinet of model railway enthusiasts, too.

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do. Simply keep the untreated wood dry and protect it from constant moisture. Then the surface will stay looking good for a long time. If you paint or oil the locomotive, the surface becomes even more resistant.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the locomotive straight away? Yes. The plywood is untreated. You can paint, decorate, stain or oil it without any preparation.

How tall is the locomotive at the width I choose? As a guide: at a width of 10 cm, the height is 5.5 cm. The proportions stay the same for all sizes.

Why does the cutout have a brown edge? The edge is created during laser cutting and is part of the process. It also gives you the smooth edges and traces a fine outline around the silhouette.

Does every piece look the same? The shape does, the wood not quite. As a natural material, it varies in shade and may show small knots or irregularities in the grain. That makes every piece unique.

Is the locomotive suitable for outdoor use? Untreated, it belongs indoors. If you paint or oil it first, it is better protected against moisture. You should still avoid constant moisture.

The best part is the moment the locomotive you painted yourself finds its place on the windowsill. And everyone feels a little proud. Just choose your width and quantity. You design the rest.
