Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong.Sports day at nursery, a birthday party in the garden or a little award ceremony after a family games afternoon: a wooden medal you've designed yourself turns a moment like that into a real award. The round wooden medal arrives untreated – with a slot for the ribbon, ready to paint, decorate and write on, made for your next award ceremony. You design it, your winners beam.
What changes for you
- You can start painting and decorating your medal straight away – because the wood is untreated and takes paint, glue or oil well.
- Your medal hangs straight from the ribbon, with no drilling needed – thanks to the ready-made laser-cut hanging slot.
- You'll find the right size for every occasion – from a small 3 cm tag to a large 20 cm showpiece medal, available in 1 cm steps.
- You can kit out a whole group of children or a team without ordering one by one – with sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
- You can work comfortably and safely – because the laser cut leaves the edges smooth and splinter-free.
Why this wooden medal makes a difference in everyday life
A wooden medal feels different in your hand from plastic or card. The wood feels warm and light, and the surface is smooth and pleasant to hold. Whoever receives one is happy to wear it. And whoever decorated it sees their own work in it. This turns a simple wooden cutout into a personal award. After the party, it doesn't end up in the bin. It stays hanging on the shelf in the children's room.
Material & finish
The medal is laser-cut from 3 mm poplar plywood. It is made in our own production at Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia. The laser cut leaves smooth edges and the typical brown rim. This rim gives each medal a fine outline. The wood is left natural – not varnished, not glazed. So you can stick things on it, paint it, coat it or oil it. As a purely natural material, every medal shows its own grain. Some are lighter, some darker, and some have small knots. This is not a flaw. It is what makes each piece one of a kind.

- At school or club sports days: with a set of 25, 50 or 100 you can kit out every participant – prepared in a craft session, presented with a big cheer.
- As a gift tag: a small 3 or 4 cm medal with a name on a ribbon turns any parcel into a personal gift.
- At nursery, after-school club or primary school: as craft supplies for all kinds of decorations – to paint, decorate and hang up, with the size chosen to suit the project.
- For company runs, club anniversaries or team events: large medals up to 20 cm can be personalised and presented as a keepsake or award.
Good to know about medals
The word medal goes back to the Italian “medaglia” and originally referred to a coin-like commemorative piece. To this day, the round shape stands for recognition and special achievement – which is exactly why the wooden medal is so well suited to sports days, children's birthday parties and small award ceremonies, where the gesture counts rather than the material value.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do: simply store the untreated medals in a dry place and they'll stay stable and easy to work with. After decorating, you can seal the surface with paint, varnish or oil – so the memory lasts a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint or decorate the medal? Yes. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor stained, and can be painted, decorated, coated or oiled.
Which ribbon fits through the hanging slot? That depends on the size: Ø 3–4 cm takes ribbons up to 10 mm, Ø 5–9 cm up to 15 mm, Ø 10–14 cm up to 20 mm and Ø 15–20 cm up to 25 mm wide.
Why do the medals look different? Wood is a natural material: shade, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece – which is exactly what makes every medal unique.
Where does the brown rim come from? The medals are laser-cut. This creates the typical brown rim, and the edges are smooth and splinter-free.
Are other sizes available? Yes, custom orders in other sizes are possible – please enquire before you buy.
In the end, it's not about a round wooden cutout. It's about the moment you hang a self-designed medal around a proud child's neck – and that moment lives on for a long time on the shelf in the children's room. Simply choose the size and quantity that suit your occasion.
