The craft table is ready, with paints and brushes laid out. All that's missing is a motif that makes children's eyes light up and is easy to decorate. That's exactly what this wooden pelican is made for. It's a clear bird silhouette in plywood, untreated and ready for your ideas. Whether it's a small table scatter piece or a large figure for the shop window – you choose the height. Your hands do the rest.

What changes for you

  • You can start right away, with no preparation or sanding. The pelican is laser-cut, so it has smooth, clean edges.
  • Your motif fits your project exactly, from table scatter to wall decoration. You can choose any height from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • You decorate it just the way you like. You can paint the untreated wood, stick things on it, coat it or oil it.
  • You'll have plenty to go round when crafting with children, at nursery or for group work. The pelican comes singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
  • You can rely on consistent quality. Every cutout comes from our own Bütic production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

Why this wooden pelican makes a difference day to day

A ready-made blank takes the most time-consuming part off your hands. Instead of tracing templates and sawing them out, you go straight to the fun part: decorating. The clear silhouette works even unpainted, with its smooth surfaces and distinctive beak. Once painted, it can hang on the wall or in the window. Or it can stand on a table laid with a seaside theme. A simple piece of wood becomes a small one-of-a-kind piece that is clearly your own.

Material & finish

The pelican is made from 3 mm plywood and laser-cut. That's why it has smooth edges and the typical brown rim. The rim gives the motif a fine, drawn outline. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. It takes paint, glue and oil well. Wood is a natural material, so the shade and grain vary from piece to piece. Small knots may also appear. This isn't a flaw – it makes every piece unique.

How to use the wooden pelican

  • Crafting with children: Each child paints their own pelican. At the end, they proudly take home a piece they designed themselves.
  • At nursery or in primary school lessons: With a set of 25 or 50 figures, the whole group has the same motif. And you save yourself the cutting and preparation.
  • For your seaside decorations: Small pelicans as table scatter, a large figure on the windowsill – and your summer theme runs through the whole room.
  • In the shop window or at a market stall: A large pelican silhouette, painted to match your range, draws attention to your display. Passers-by stop to take a look.
  • As a gift tag or card decoration: Put a small pelican on a parcel or greetings card. Your present looks lovingly handmade rather than bought.

Good to know about the pelican

As a coastal and water bird, the pelican is a classic motif for anything maritime. That's why it fits so naturally into beach, holiday and bathroom decorations. Since the Middle Ages it has also been a symbol of care and devotion. People used to say it fed its young at great sacrifice to itself. This also makes it a fitting motif for small gifts, for example when you make a Mother's Day present.

Care & durability

There isn't much to do. Store it somewhere dry and dust it when needed. Then its natural look will last a long time. Don't expose the untreated wood to constant moisture. Painting, glazing or oiling it makes the surface more resistant.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the pelican or stick things on it? Yes. The plywood is untreated. You can paint it, stick things on it, coat it or oil it – whatever your idea.

Why does the cutout have a brown rim? The pelican is laser-cut. The slightly browned rim is typical of this process. It also means the edges are smooth and need no finishing.

Do all the pelicans look the same? The shape is identical, the wood is not. As a natural material, it varies in shade and grain and sometimes has small knots. Every piece is unique.

How wide is the pelican? The width depends on the height you choose. At a height of 10 cm, the pelican is approx. 9 cm wide.

Is the pelican suitable for outdoor use? The wood is untreated, so it is intended for indoor use at first. You can protect the surface for outdoor use with paint, glaze or oil.

A wooden cutout is just the start. What counts is the afternoon when a plain piece of wood becomes your very own pelican. You paint it, decorate it and proudly hang it up. Just choose your size and quantity. You design the rest.
