Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The craft table is set with paints, brushes and little hands that can hardly wait. All that's missing is a motif that makes everyone want to get started. That's exactly what this wooden rat is for. It's a natural plywood silhouette. You can paint it, decorate it or simply use it as it is in your decorations. Maybe a cheeky Halloween motif, a figure for a school project or a decoration for a shop window. Either way, the plain wooden rat cutout quickly becomes your very own piece.
What changes for you
- You can get started straight away, with no sanding or finishing. The wooden rat is laser-cut and has clean, smooth edges.
- You can design it just the way you like. The untreated wood takes paint, glue, glaze or oil well.
- You get exactly the size that suits your project – from 3 cm to 50 cm wide, selectable in 1 cm steps.
- Bigger projects are easy to plan too. The rat comes singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
- Your finished piece has character. Every piece of wood has its own grain, so every rat is one of a kind.
Why this wooden rat makes a difference
Shop-bought decorations often look the same everywhere. A motif you've designed yourself tells your story. The wooden rat gives you a clear shape to work with. You paint it to suit your occasion: spooky for Halloween, colourful when crafting with children, subtle as shop decoration. The result is decoration that really belongs to you. And a crafting afternoon where everyone makes something of their own.
Material & finish
The rat is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood. This gives a precise outline and smooth edges, so even little hands won't knock against sharp corners. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. That's why it takes paints and oils particularly well. Wood is a natural material. Each silhouette has a slightly different shade. Small knots or fine irregularities in the grain are normal. That's what makes every piece unique. Every wooden rat is made in our own production at Bütic in Pößneck, in the heart of Thuringia.

How to use the wooden rat
- Crafting with children: Every child paints their own rat. At the end of the afternoon, each one proudly takes home an animal they designed themselves.
- For Halloween: Paint several rats black and place them on the windowsill or stairs. Your entrance gets just the right spooky mood.
- For school projects or the theatre: Use it as a prop for the Pied Piper of Hamelin or in science lessons. With sizes from small to almost half a metre wide, you get exactly the right scale.
- In a shop or at the market: Place it at the cheese counter or in the shop window. It's a motif that makes your customers smile and start chatting.
- As gift tags or table scatter: Tie small rats from 3 cm onto parcels or spread them across the table. A little detail that takes hardly any effort and gets noticed.
Good to know about the rat
Few animals are as closely linked to a German legend as the rat. The Pied Piper of Hamelin has been one of the country's best-known tales for centuries. So the motif isn't just for Halloween. It also suits fairy-tale projects, plays and reading corners at school and nursery.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Keep the untreated wooden rat dry and away from constant moisture. That way it keeps its shape and looks good. Painting, glazing or oiling it gives the surface extra protection. Your decoration then stays looking the way you made it for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Is the wood treated? No, the rat is made of untreated plywood. It is neither varnished nor glazed. So you can paint, decorate, stain or oil it straight away.
How big is the rat at each width? You choose the width, and the height follows from the shape. For example, at 10 cm wide the silhouette is 9 cm high.
Is the wooden rat suitable for crafting with children? Yes. The laser-cut edges are smooth and clean, so children can start right away with brush and paint.
Can I use the rat outdoors? The wood is untreated and shouldn't stay damp for long. For outdoor use, it's best to paint or oil the surface first.
A plywood cutout is only the beginning. What counts is the moment your painted rat stands finished in front of you. And you know there isn't another one quite like it. Just choose your size and quantity and get started.
