At the same time, the edges are smooth and cleanly cut. The wood stays untreated, so it is neither varnished nor glazed. That way it reliably takes paint, glue and oil. Wood is a natural material, so every disc turns out a little different. Different shades, fine grain patterns or small knots are not a defect. They make every piece unique.
