Why this wooden swordfish makes a difference in everyday life
A ready-made figure always looks the same. A wooden blank, on the other hand, becomes your own piece. Use it as part of a nautical wall display, as a gift tag or as a project with children. The clear marlin silhouette looks calm and natural even unpainted. It still leaves you free to do whatever you like. The result is decoration that suits your home and isn't off the shelf.
Material & finish
The swordfish is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood and made in Thuringia. The laser cut gives smooth edges and the typical brown rim that traces the shape. The wood is left untreated. It is neither varnished nor glazed, so paints, glue and oils adhere well. Wood is a natural material, so every piece shows its own grain. Brightness, fine textures and small knots can vary. This makes every cutout one of a kind and is not a defect.

How to use the wooden swordfish
- Crafting with children: every child paints their own marlin. In the end, a whole colourful shoal swims across the bedroom wall.
- For a summer or garden party: put a small swordfish at each place setting or on the napkin ring. Your table tells of the sea before the first guest sits down.
- For money gifts and cards: stick one on an envelope or present. A plain envelope becomes a little gift with a holiday greeting.
- In a café, fishmonger's or at a market stall: use the marlin as table scatter on the counter or write on it as a small price tag. It brings the nautical theme into your display. It's quick to set up. With sets of up to 100 pieces, costs are easy to plan.
- At school or nursery: a template for painting, decorating and designing for whole groups. Thanks to the sets, every child has the same motif.
Good to know about the marlin
Since Ernest Hemingway's novella "The Old Man and the Sea" at the latest, the marlin has stood for the sea, endurance and great adventures. That's why the silhouette suits nautical decorations in the bathroom or a beach house style. It also works for gifts for anglers, sailors and anyone who loves the water.
Care & durability
There isn't much to do: simply wipe off dust with a dry cloth. Because the plywood is untreated, avoid constant moisture. If you want to use the swordfish outdoors or in the bathroom, paint or oil it first. This helps it keep its shape and colour for longer.
