Your Easter wreath is almost finished. Just one motif is missing – something you can decorate yourself, ideally together with the children. This wooden mallard is made for exactly that. It's a laser-cut plywood silhouette, untreated and ready to paint, stick things on or decorate. This plain cutout becomes a decoration you've made yourself.

What changes for you

  • You design your decoration exactly the way you imagine it. The wood is untreated, so you can paint it, glue things on, varnish it or oil it.
  • You get clean results with no finishing work – thanks to the smooth laser-cut edges with their typical brown rim.
  • You'll find the right size for every project – from small table scatter to a large window decoration. Choose any size from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • Planning craft afternoons with children or groups is easy – because the duck is available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces.
  • You're holding a genuine natural product – every mallard shows its own grain, so each one is unique.

Why this wooden cutout makes a difference in everyday life

Shop-bought decorations look the same everywhere. A motif you've decorated yourself tells your story. The clear mallard silhouette brings a touch of nature to your window, table or door wreath. It never looks overdone. And when you craft with children, you create something that lasts: an afternoon together and a result everyone is proud of.

Material & finish

The mallard is laser-cut from 3 mm thick plywood. This gives it smooth edges with the typical brown rim, which adds extra outline to the motif. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor stained. That's why it takes paint, glue and oils well. Wood is a natural material and is never completely uniform. Differences in shade, fine structures in the grain and small knots are normal – they make every piece unique. The duck is made in our own production at Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the mallard

  • Crafting with children: each child paints their own duck – and in the end a colourful duck family swims across the windowsill.
  • At Easter: a few ducks between twigs and eggs in your door wreath – and your entrance greets guests with a spring welcome before they even come in.
  • As a window decoration: hang the silhouette in the window – and it frames your view outside with a natural motif.
  • For money gifts and cards: stick on a small duck or write on it – and an envelope becomes a personal surprise.
  • At nursery, school or craft club: with sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces, you'll have enough blanks ready for the whole group. No need to reorder single pieces.

Good to know about the mallard

The mallard is the best-known and most widespread duck species in Europe. Hardly any bird at the pond is recognised so quickly. That's exactly why its silhouette works so well as a decoration. Even unpainted, the shape is instantly recognisable as a duck. With just a few brushstrokes it becomes the typical drake with its green head.

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do. Store the untreated cutouts in a dry place, then they keep their shape and stay easy to work with. If your duck is going to hang outside permanently, protect it from moisture with varnish or oil after decorating. That way your work will last a long time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the mallard? Yes. The plywood is untreated and takes acrylic and craft paints, glue, oils and wood stains well.

Why does the edge have a brown rim? The duck is laser-cut. The brown rim is created during cutting. It gives smooth edges and a clear outline to the silhouette.

How tall is the duck at the width I choose? As a guide: at a width of 10 cm, the height is 7.5 cm. The proportions stay the same for all sizes.

Do all the ducks look exactly the same? The shape does, the wood doesn't. As a natural material, every piece has its own grain, different shades and sometimes small knots. This is not a defect – it makes every duck unique.

What counts is the moment your own duck hangs in the window and you think: I made that. Just choose your width and quantity – and get started.
