It's a rainy day. The craft table is ready, and the children are waiting with brushes and paints. All that's missing is a shape that makes them want to get started. This wooden squid is made for afternoons like this. It's a clear plywood silhouette, untreated and ready for your ideas. Seaside decoration for the bathroom, a garland for the children's room or table scatter for a summer table: this simple cutout becomes exactly what you make of it.

What changes for you

  • You can start crafting straight away, with no sawing or sanding. The squid arrives laser-cut with smooth edges.
  • Your project gets exactly the right size. You choose the height from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • You decorate it just the way you like. You can paint the untreated wood, stick things on it, coat it or oil it.
  • Bigger projects are easy to plan. The cutout is available individually or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
  • You get smooth cut edges and precise outlines. That's thanks to careful finishing in our own production in Thuringia.

Why this wooden squid makes a difference day to day

A ready-cut shape takes care of the tedious part and leaves you the fun part: decorating. When crafting with children, you spend more time on paint, glitter and making things together, and less on preparation. And afterwards, a piece of seaside decoration hangs in the bathroom or children's room that you really made yourselves – not something off the shelf.

Material & finish

The squid is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood. This leaves the edges smooth with the typical brown rim, which gives the silhouette a fine outline. The wood is left natural, so it is neither varnished nor glazed. It takes paint, glue or oil well. Wood is a natural material. It can be lighter or darker and may show small differences in the grain or tiny knots. That makes every piece one of a kind. The cutout is made in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the wooden squid

  • Crafting with children: each child paints their own squid. In the end, a whole colourful underwater world swims across the table.
  • In the bathroom or children's room: combine several sizes on the wall or window. Your room now has a seaside theme.
  • For garlands and mobiles: thread the silhouettes onto string to make a sea-themed mobile. It turns gently in the breeze.
  • On the summer table: paint them and scatter them between plates and glasses. Your guests have something to discover before the meal.
  • In shops or cafés: in the shop window, on the counter or with the summer menu, the shape gives you consistent seasonal decoration with little effort. Sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 also cover larger areas.

Good to know about squid

In German, squid and octopus are called "ink fish". The name comes from the dark ink the animals use to hide from predators in the sea. Children almost always love this story while painting. That's why the shape is a classic for underwater birthday parties, seaside summer decorations and anything with a sea theme.

Care & durability

There isn't much to do. Simply keep the untreated wood dry and protect it from constant moisture. Then it will keep its shape for a long time. If you paint or oil the cutout, you decide on the finish yourself – from natural to colourful.

Frequently asked questions

Is the wood untreated? Yes. The cutout is neither varnished nor glazed. You can paint, decorate, coat or oil it straight away.

Where does the brown edge come from? The squid is laser-cut. The brown edge forms naturally during cutting and also gives you smooth edges.

How wide is the cutout? The width depends on the height you choose. For example, at 10 cm high it is 7.5 cm wide.

Are colour differences in the wood normal? Yes. Wood is a natural material and varies in shade. Small knots or variations in the grain are part of it. Every piece is one of a kind.

Can I order larger quantities? Yes. The cutout is available individually or in sets of 10, 25 or 50. For larger projects there is also a set of 100.

With a few brushstrokes, this plywood cutout becomes a small underwater world on a craft afternoon. Later it can hang in the children's room. Just choose your size and quantity and get started.
