Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The children's birthday party has a knights' castle theme. Your club needs its own emblem. Or you finally want to design a family coat of arms – and you don't have the right blank. This shield in untreated wood is made for exactly that. It's a classic heraldic shield shape that you paint, decorate or label just as you like. An empty wooden surface becomes a piece that tells your story.
What changes for you
- You can start crafting straight away, with no sawing or sanding of your own. The shield is cleanly laser-cut and has smooth edges.
- Your design gets exactly the right size, from a small tag to a wall sign. You can choose a height from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- You design it however you like: painted, decorated with stickers, coated or oiled. The wood comes untreated in its natural state and takes paint well.
- You can easily kit out larger projects too, such as a whole craft session with children or a club evening. The shield is available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces.
Why this coat of arms shield makes a difference
A ready-made blank takes care of the hardest part and leaves you the best one: the designing. Instead of thinking about tools and cutting, you sit at the table with brushes and paints. On your own, with the children or in a group. And at the end there's a coat of arms on the wall that exists only once, because it comes from you.
Material & finish
The heraldic shield is made from 3 mm poplar plywood and laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck. This gives it smooth edges with the brown rim typical of laser cutting. The rim frames the design in a natural way. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. That makes it an ideal base for paint, glue or oil. As a natural material, each shield varies slightly in shade. The grain may show fine textures or small knots. This is not a flaw – it's what makes every piece unique.

How to use the coat of arms shield
- Crafting with children: every child paints their own knight's coat of arms – and takes home something from the party that they made themselves.
- For your family coat of arms: you transfer your name, motif and colours onto the shield – and a piece of family history hangs on the wall in your hallway.
- At your club: design the emblem on matching shields – at a party or in the clubhouse, everyone can see at a glance who belongs together.
- As a handmade gift: paint a small coat of arms with a name and year – for Father's Day or Mother's Day, more personal than any shop-bought card.
- For businesses at medieval markets or in shops: design sizes up to 50 cm as signs or counter decorations. Your stall has consistent signage, without the need for expensive custom work.
Good to know about the coat of arms shield
The shield shape comes from medieval heraldry. Coats of arms made knights in armour recognisable. Later they became the sign of families, towns and guilds. That's exactly why this shape works so well for anything that shows belonging – from a home-made family coat of arms to a club emblem or a medieval motif.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Keep the untreated wood dry, and it stays stable in shape and clean to work on. If you want to protect your finished coat of arms for good, you can coat, oil or varnish it after painting. That way you'll enjoy your design for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Is the wood treated? No, the heraldic shield is supplied untreated – neither varnished nor glazed. So you can paint it, decorate it, coat it or oil it straight away.
Where does the brown rim on the edges come from? It's created during laser cutting and is typical of this process. The edges are smooth and cleanly cut.
Do all shields look exactly the same? The shape is identical, the wood isn't. As a natural material, it varies in shade and may show fine textures or small knots – every piece is unique.
How wide is the shield? The width depends on the height you choose. For reference: at a height of 10 cm, the coat of arms is 7 cm wide.
A piece of plywood turns into something more the moment your finished, painted coat of arms hangs on the wall. Everyone can see that someone made it with their own hands. Just choose your size and get started.
