Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The knights' birthday party is planned and the paints are ready – all that's missing is a shield each child can design themselves. That's exactly what this wooden coat of arms shield is made for: a laser-cut cutout of untreated poplar plywood in the classic shield shape, ready for you to paint, stick things on or write on. Whether it's a family crest, decor for a child's bedroom or a club project – the bare wood becomes your very own design.
What changes for you
- You can get crafting and painting straight away – the wood is untreated, so paint, varnish, oil and glue adhere directly.
- You get exactly the size your project needs – the height can be chosen from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- Crafting sessions with children stay relaxed, because the edges are laser-cut and smooth – no sanding, no rough spots.
- Plan bigger projects without reordering, thanks to sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
- The clean laser contour gives the shield shape a clear, even outline.
Why this coat of arms shield makes a difference
A ready-made cutout takes care of the most tedious part for you: the sawing. You can focus on the fun bit – designing, painting and decorating. That way a craft idea turns into a visible result more quickly, whether at the kitchen table with the kids or when decorating for a medieval fair. And because all the cutouts share the same clean shape, even larger batches look perfectly matched.
Material & finish
The coat of arms shield is made from 3 mm poplar plywood. It is laser cut in our own production in Pößneck. Laser cutting gives smooth edges and the typical brown cut edge. This is a hallmark of this production method and gives the shield a slightly rustic border. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. That is why paint and glue adhere reliably. As a natural material, every piece shows its own grain, different shades and occasionally small knots. This is not a flaw. It is what makes every shield one of a kind.

- In a child's bedroom: a large shield with their name above the bed – and the knight theme is complete at a glance.
- For your family crest: transfer your own design onto the wood and get a personal piece for the hallway or living room.
- In clubs or medieval projects: with a set of 25 or 50 you can kit out a whole group in matching style – without doing any sawing yourself.
- At school, after-school club or nursery: the smooth edges and handy thickness make this cutout easy-going craft material for whole groups.
Good to know about the coat of arms shield
The shield shape dates back to the Middle Ages: knights bore their coat of arms on their shield so they could be recognised beneath their helmets – and this gave rise to heraldry. That's exactly why the shape still feels familiar today and works so well for family crests, knight motifs and anything to do with medieval fairs.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do: keep the untreated wood dry and avoid prolonged moisture, and it will keep its shape. If you paint, oil or varnish it, you give the surface extra protection and your finished shield will keep its colour for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the coat of arms shield straight away? Yes. The wood is untreated and can be painted, oiled, decorated with stick-ons or varnished – paints adhere without any pre-treatment.
Where does the brown rim on the edges come from? It's created during laser cutting and is typical of this process. The edges are smooth and don't need sanding.
How wide is the shield at the height I've chosen? The proportions stay the same: at a height of 10 cm, the width is 9 cm – you can work out other sizes from this.
Do all the cutouts look exactly the same? The shape is identical, the wood isn't: as a natural material, every piece shows its own grain, shade and sometimes small knots.
Is the coat of arms shield available in larger quantities? Yes, as well as single pieces you can order sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 – ideal for groups, clubs and school projects.
In the end, it's not about a wooden cutout. It's about the moment a coat of arms you designed yourself hangs on the wall – and everyone can see: we made that. Simply choose the height and quantity that suit your project.
