Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong.A rainy afternoon, the craft table laid out with paints, brushes and glue – all that's missing is the right blank. This coat of arms shield in untreated poplar plywood is made for your next crafting afternoon: a classic heraldic shape that you can paint, decorate or letter however you like. A simple wooden cutout becomes a family crest, a knight's shield for the children's room or a club emblem you've designed yourself.
What changes for you
- You can start painting, decorating or oiling straight away – the wood comes untreated in its natural finish and takes any colour well.
- Your project gets exactly the right size – you can choose any height from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- It's pleasant to work with and needs no finishing – the laser cut leaves smooth edges that won't splinter.
- Crafting with children, at your club or with a school class? There's enough for everyone – the shield is available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
- Your finished piece looks neatly made. The typical brown edge from the laser cut gives the motif a clear outline.
Why this coat of arms shield makes a difference
A good blank does half the work for you. The shape is already right, so you only need to take care of the design. You might make medieval decorations for a themed party, a door sign with a name or a small gift with a personal coat of arms. The result looks well thought out, and you don't need to saw or sand anything. Each shield is made of real wood. So it shows the grain and texture of the material from the start.
Material & finish
The heraldic shield is laser-cut from 3 mm poplar plywood in our own production in Pößneck. The result: clean contours, smooth edges and a surface that feels pleasant to the touch. It is also easy to work with. The wood is untreated – neither varnished nor glazed. So it is ready for whatever you have in mind: painting, oiling, adding stickers or writing on it. As a purely natural material, wood is never completely uniform. Shade, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece. That is exactly what makes every heraldic shield one of a kind.

How to use the coat of arms shield
- Crafting with children: each child designs their own knight's crest with paint and glitter – and proudly carries it around the children's room afterwards.
- For a family crest: transfer your design onto the shield, hang it in the hallway – and visitors will stop to look before they've even taken their coats off.
- For a medieval party or your club: with a set, you can make matching emblems for everyone – giving the table decorations or club celebration a shared motif.
- As a gift tag or door sign: a small crest with a name written on it turns a simple parcel into a personal gift.
- In a shop or café: lettered shields label varieties and prices at the counter – uniform, natural and quick to swap.
Good to know about the coat of arms shield
The coat of arms shield dates back to the Middle Ages: knights had their shields painted so they could be recognised at tournaments and in battle – and this gave rise to heraldry, the study of coats of arms. That's why this classic shape suits a home-made family crest just as well as knightly decor for the children's room or an emblem for a club or medieval market.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do: as the wood is untreated, it's happiest kept dry – avoid constant moisture. Painting or oiling it gives the surface extra protection and lets you choose the look at the same time. That way, your finished crest will stay looking good for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Is the wood treated? No, the poplar plywood is untreated – neither varnished nor glazed. You can paint, decorate, stain or oil it as you like.
Why does the shield have a brown edge? The shield is laser-cut. This creates the typical dark edge – a feature of laser cutting that gives the shape a natural outline.
How wide is the shield? The width depends on the height you choose. For reference: at a height of 10 cm, the shield is 9 cm wide.
Does every shield look the same? The shape is always identical, but the wood isn't: as a natural material, it shows differences in brightness, variations in the grain and occasionally small knots. This isn't a flaw – it makes every piece one of a kind.
In the end, it's not about a wooden cutout. It's about the moment your own crest hangs on the wall – and you see what a simple piece of wood has become. Just choose your size and get started.
