Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The birthday party is coming up and the theme is knights' castle. On the table, a stack of wooden shields is waiting to be painted. This wooden coat of arms cutout is made for exactly that. It is a classic shield shape in untreated plywood, and you design it your way. A plain blank becomes a family crest, table decoration or a small gift with a story.
What changes for you
- You can start crafting straight away, with no sawing or sanding. Every shield is laser-cut and has smooth edges.
- Your paints, varnishes and glues hold well. The wood is untreated, so you can glue, paint, coat or oil it.
- You get exactly the size your project needs. Choose from 3 cm for table scatter to 50 cm for a door sign, in 1 cm steps.
- Group projects are easy to plan, for example crafting with kids or at a club. Sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces are available.
- Your finished piece looks complete. The laser cut leaves the typical brown edge, which frames the design neatly.
Why this coat of arms shield makes a difference
A ready-made wooden blank takes care of the tedious part and leaves you the fun part: designing. Maybe you are at the craft table with the kids. Maybe you are decorating for a medieval party or creating your own family crest. Either way, you focus on colours and ideas, not on tools. And because every shield is made of real wood, it feels and looks different from printed card.
Material & finish
The coat of arms shield is made of 3 mm poplar plywood. It is laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. The edges are clean and smooth, so nobody rubs their fingers on them. The surface is left natural, neither varnished nor stained. It takes paint, oil and glue well. Wood is a natural material. Shade and grain vary, and small knots may occur. This makes every piece unique and is not a defect.

How to use the coat of arms shield
- Crafting with kids: Every child paints their own knight's coat of arms. At the end of the party, they take home a keepsake they designed themselves.
- For your family crest: Add your name, a motif and your colours to the shield. You get a personal piece for your wall that no shop sells.
- For a medieval or school project: A set of 25 or 50 blanks is enough for a whole group. No hours of cutting in advance.
- As table and room decoration: Scatter small shields from 3 cm across the party table or hang them on branches. Your party theme then runs through the whole room.
- In cafés, at market stalls or in shops: Labelled shields mark varieties and offers. They are uniform, durable and quick to swap.
Good to know about coats of arms
The shield shape comes straight from heraldry. In the Middle Ages, the coat of arms on a shield was what made a knight in full armour recognisable. This led to family and town coats of arms, which still show belonging today. That is why this cutout suits home-made family crests, knight motifs and any medieval project.
Care & durability
Care is simple. Keep the untreated wood dry and wipe it with a dry cloth when needed. Painting, varnishing or oiling it gives the surface extra protection. That way your finished shield stays looking good for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Is the wood treated? No, the poplar plywood is left natural – neither varnished nor stained. You can glue, paint, coat or oil it straight away.
Why does the shield have a brown edge? The dark edge comes from laser cutting and is typical of this process. It frames the design and also gives smooth edges.
Do all shields look the same? The shape is identical, the wood is not. As a natural material, it varies in shade and grain, and small knots are possible. This makes every piece unique.
How wide is the shield? The width depends on the height. For example, a shield 10 cm high is 9 cm wide.
Which paints are suitable? The surface is untreated, so it takes paints, varnishes and oils well. It is also ideal for craft projects with kids.
The best part is the moment your own coat of arms lies finished in front of you. And you know there is only one like it. Just choose your size and quantity. The rest happens at your craft table.
