Material & finish

The silhouette is made from 3 mm plywood. It is laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. Laser cutting gives clean, smooth edges without splinters. It also leaves a typical brown edge that clearly outlines the gnome's shape. The face and contours are scored into the top side. The underside is left natural. Wood is a natural material, so every sheet is a little different. Some are lighter, some darker. Now and then you'll see small knots or slight irregularities in the grain. This makes every gnome one of a kind. It's not a flaw, just the nature of wood.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint or decorate the gnome? Yes. The plywood is untreated and left natural. You can paint, oil, decorate or glue things onto it. Paints stick directly to the surface.

Why does the gnome have a brown edge? The cutout is laser-cut. This creates the typical dark edge. It's a feature of the process, which also gives smooth, splinter-free edges.

Is the face printed on? No. The face and contours are scored into the top side. The underside is left natural.

Do all gnomes look exactly the same? The shape does, the wood not quite. As a natural material, it can be lighter or darker and may show small knots. This makes every piece one of a kind.
