Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The Advent wreath is up and the candles are lit. And there's still room on the windowsill for a wooden Christmas gnome. A wooden Christmas gnome brings just that bit of cosiness into your home. Use it as a blank to paint or decorate, or leave it as plain natural wood. You choose the height from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps. That makes it just right for your windowsill, your Advent table or your next craft project.
What changes for you
- You design your Christmas decorations exactly the way you like them. The plywood is untreated, so you can paint it, stick things on it, oil it or varnish it.
- Your gnome fits anywhere, from a display box to a shop window. That's thanks to the height, which you can choose freely from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- You can see the face and hat at a glance, with no need to sketch them yourself. The outlines are already etched in by laser.
- You can craft at ease, even with children. The laser-cut edges are smooth and cleanly finished.
- You can kit out larger projects in one go. Order singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
Why this wooden Christmas gnome makes a difference day to day
Shop-bought Christmas decorations often look the same everywhere. A gnome you've designed yourself shows your own hand. Painted the classic way with a red hat or left deliberately natural: the untreated wood looks calm and understated among fir branches and candlelight. And when children join in, you end up with a little keepsake that gets unpacked again year after year.
Material & finish
The gnome is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood. That's where the fine brown rim on the edges comes from, which is typical of every cutout. The top side has the etched outline with the face and details. The underside is left natural. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. This means paints, glues and oils adhere reliably. As a natural material, every piece has its own texture. The brightness varies, and small knots or variations in the grain can occur. This isn't a flaw. It's what makes each gnome one of a kind. It's made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the Christmas gnome
- Crafting with children on an Advent Sunday: everyone paints their own gnome. By evening, a whole colourful gnome family is standing on the windowsill.
- As tags or table scatter on the gift table: small sizes decorate parcels and cards. They make each present a personal one.
- At Christmas dinner: put a gnome at every place, labelled with a name. Your guests not only find their seat but also get a little gift to take home.
- In a bakery, café or at a Christmas market stall: large gnomes from 30 or 40 cm fill shop windows and counters so they're easy to see. They're quick to set up, with no elaborate display needed.
- For nurseries, schools or craft groups: with the sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100, you have the same blank for the whole group. And you save yourself sawing them out by hand.
Good to know about the gnome
The gnome comes from Scandinavian tradition. Known as a “Nisse” or “Tomte”, it was seen as a kindly household spirit that watched over house and farm. That's exactly why it suits the Christmas season so well. It's a small symbol of a safe and sheltered home, whether on the windowsill, on a present or on the festive table.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Simply wipe off dust with a dry cloth. As the wood is untreated, you should avoid prolonged moisture. Kept indoors, the gnome will be with you for many Christmases. If you paint or oil it, you decide the look and finish yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint or decorate the gnome? Yes. The plywood is untreated and left natural. Acrylic paints, pens, glue or oil adhere well to the surface.
Is the face printed on? No. The face and outlines are permanently etched into the top side by laser. They won't fade, and you can paint over them.
Why does the gnome have a brown edge? The cutout is made by laser. The fine brown rim on the edges is typical of this and part of the product.
Does every gnome look the same? The shape is identical, the wood isn't. As a natural material, it varies in brightness and grain, and small knots are possible. Every piece is one of a kind.
Is the back worked? The underside is left natural. The etched outline is on the top side.
This wooden cutout is just the starting point. What it's really for is the afternoon when brushes and paints are on the table and the children are bent over their gnomes. By evening, your own Christmas decorations are standing in the window. Simply choose your height and your set. The rest happens at your home.
