The children's birthday party is just around the corner, and you'd like something better than a paper garland that ends up in the bin after one afternoon. With these wooden pennants, you can thread your very own wooden bunting – and paint, decorate or write on each flag to suit your occasion. The result is a garland that looks as if it were made just for your celebration, and one you can hang up again year after year.

What changes for you

  • You can design every flag exactly the way you want – because the plywood is untreated and can be decorated, painted, coated or oiled.
  • You can thread your wooden bunting in just a few minutes – thanks to the two 3 mm diameter holes in the top corners.
  • Your decoration always fits the space you have – because you choose the width freely from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • Crafting stays relaxed, even with children – the laser-cut edges are smooth, so there's no need for sanding.
  • You'll have plenty of supplies for larger projects – available individually or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.

Why this wooden pennant makes a difference in everyday life

A garland you've designed yourself says something about the occasion and about you – whether it's above the birthday table, in a child's bedroom or in a shop window. Instead of throwaway decorations, you hang up something you made with your own hands, and simply bring it out again for the next celebration. When you craft with children, the preparation becomes part of the party: everyone designs their own flag, and in the end the result is on display for all to see.

Material & finish

Each pennant is laser cut from 3 mm plywood. It has the typical fine brown edge. This edge frames the flag and gives your design a clear outline. The edges are smooth and the finish is clean, so you can start crafting straight away. The wood is untreated, with no varnish or stain. Paint and glue stick well, and the natural surface stays visible. Wood is a purely natural material, so every piece turns out slightly different. Some are lighter, some darker, with lively grain and sometimes small knots. This makes every flag one of a kind. The pennants are made in our own production at Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the wooden pennant

  • For birthdays: thread painted flags with names and ages onto a string – and above the cake table hangs a garland quite unlike any other.
  • Crafting with children: each child designs their own flag with pens or finger paint – and is visibly proud when it later hangs in their bedroom.
  • At Christmas time: paint the pennants with stars or numbers and turn them into Christmas decorations or an advent calendar garland – each day, a marker moves along one flag.
  • In a shop or café: use lettered wooden bunting to announce offers in the shop window or above the counter. It lasts longer than paper. You can reuse it after taking it down.
  • Our tip for garlands: thread several pennants onto a string or ribbon – this creates a garland where you can design each individual flag, for example for a birthday, a child's bedroom or a shop window.

Good to know about the pennant

Bunting has always been part of festive decorations – from fabric garlands at village fêtes and garden parties to the colourful string above the birthday table. The wooden version carries on this tradition, only more durably: once designed, the garland accompanies you through many celebrations instead of sagging or fading after a single day.

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do: store the pennants in a dry place and protect the untreated wood from prolonged moisture – and your garland will stay lovely for many celebrations to come. If you paint or oil the flags, you'll make the surface even more hard-wearing.

Options & what's included

  • Width freely selectable from 5 cm to 50 cm, in 1 cm steps
  • Available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100
  • The wooden pennants are supplied in their natural form, untreated – string, ribbon and paints are not included

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint or decorate the pennants? Yes. The plywood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed – you can decorate, paint, coat or oil it.

How do I thread the pennants into a garland? Each pennant has two 3 mm diameter holes in the corners. Simply thread a string or ribbon through – and your bunting is ready.

How tall is a pennant at a given width? For reference: at a width of 10 cm, the height is 6.5 cm. The ratio of width to height stays the same across all sizes.

Why don't all the pennants look exactly the same? Wood is a natural material: shade and grain vary, and small knots are normal. That's exactly what makes every piece unique.

Where does the brown edge come from? The pennants are laser-cut – the fine brown edge is typical of this cutting method and also ensures smooth edges.

In the end, it's not about plywood and hole diameters. It's about the moment your own garland hangs above the table and the party feels like yours the second guests walk in. Just choose your width and quantity – and get started.
