An afternoon at the craft table. Your paints are ready and you have an idea in mind. Maybe a wall clock with an industrial look, a steampunk decoration or a handmade gift. A wooden gear is made for your next craft idea. It is untreated, has smooth edges and comes in exactly the size your project needs. You pick it up, and your idea starts to take shape.

What changes for you

  • You can start painting, decorating or oiling straight away – the plywood is untreated and takes colour well.
  • Your project gets exactly the right size, no compromises – thanks to a choice of heights from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • No more tedious sawing and sanding – the gears are laser-cut and have smooth edges.
  • Planning bigger projects or group activities is easy – because the gears are available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces.
  • Your decor feels warm rather than cold and technical – because wood gives every motif a natural, lively surface.

Why this wooden gear makes a difference every day

Wooden gears bring a special mix to your wall or table: the technical shape and the warmth of the wood. Use them on their own or as a group that interlocks. The motif brings together technology, craft and mechanics. You choose the size and design yourself. So in the end you create something that suits your home or your project exactly.

Material & finish

Every gear is laser-cut from 3 mm plywood in our own production at Bütic in Pößneck. Laser cutting gives smooth edges and the typical brown rim. This rim gives the motif a finely drawn outline. The gears feel pleasant in your hand and are neatly finished. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. You can paint it, oil it, glue things onto it or simply leave it natural. As a purely natural material, every piece shows its own grain. Some are lighter, some darker, and some may have small knots. This is not a flaw. It is what makes every gear one of a kind.

How to use your wooden gear

  • Crafting with children: every child gets to paint their own gear – and at the end, a colourful, self-made work of art hangs in the children's room.
  • For your wall decoration: combine several wooden gears in different sizes to fill your wall with an industrial or steampunk motif.
  • As a gift idea: a lettered or decorated gear turns a present for tinkerers, tradespeople or tech fans into something personal.
  • In a shop window or store: large gears up to 50 cm high put your theme in the spotlight – quickly arranged and easy to rearrange at any time.
  • For school, workshops or club projects: with sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces, you have enough material for everyone. There is no need to reorder single pieces.

Good to know about the gear

For centuries, the gear has stood for technology, craftsmanship and teamwork – one wheel meshes with the next. That's exactly why it's such a popular motif: for steampunk decorations, for gifts to people in trades and engineering, or as a symbol that everything fits together in a team.

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do: as the wood is untreated, it's best to keep the gear dry and avoid prolonged moisture. If you paint or oil it, you give the surface extra protection – so your motif stays looking good for a long time.

Options & what's included

  • Choose your height: 3 cm to 50 cm, in 1 cm steps
  • Available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100
  • The gear is delivered untreated in its natural finish

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint or decorate the gear? Yes. The wood is untreated and can be painted, oiled, decorated with stick-ons or embellished however you like – ideal if you want to paint and design your gear yourself.

Why is the edge brown? The gear is laser-cut. This creates the characteristic brown rim – it's part of the process and gives the motif a clear, clean outline.

Do all the gears look the same? No. Wood is a natural material: grain, shade and small knots vary from piece to piece – which is exactly what makes every gear one of a kind.

How does the width relate to the chosen height? Height and width are the same: if you choose a height of 10 cm, for example, the gear is also 10 cm wide.

In the end, it's not about a wooden cutout. It's about the moment a simple shape becomes your idea – painted, combined, hung up and admired. Just choose your size and quantity, and your next project can begin.
