The craft table is set up and the idea is ready – all that's missing is the right wood: a strip for the lantern, a strut for the model, a batten for your seasonal décor. That's exactly what these plywood strips are made for: 100 cm long, 5 mm thick and available in widths from 1 to 10 cm – as if cut to measure for your next project. Just pick the right plywood strip and get started, without having to saw and sand first.

What changes for you

  • You can start crafting right away instead of cutting to size – every strip is already lasered to 100 cm in length and the width you've chosen.
  • Your projects look neat and well thought out, as the laser-cutting process gives smooth, precise edges with no splintering.
  • You can finish the surface however you like – the natural, untreated wood can be covered with paper or fabric, painted, varnished or oiled.
  • You'll always have a steady supply of consistent quality, thanks to sets of 10, 25, 50, 100, 250 or 500.
  • You can get custom sizes too if your project needs them – on request, we cut accurate to the millimetre.

Why these plywood strips make a difference day to day

If you love crafting, you know the moment when a good idea fails for lack of material. With a supply of even wooden strips, 5 mm thick, you're simply ready. That goes for spontaneous crafting with children as well as a planned model-making weekend. Instead of improvised cutouts, you work with material that is always the same thickness, the same length and cleanly cut. That makes the work calmer. And the parts fit together during assembly without any reworking.

Material & finish

The strips are made of 5 mm poplar plywood and are produced in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. Laser cutting gives a clean, precise finish with smooth edges. They feel pleasant in the hand and are ready to use without reworking. The wood is untreated. It takes paint, glue and oil well and leaves you free to design as you like. As a purely natural material, every piece shows its own grain, different shades and occasionally small knots. That is not a flaw. It is what makes every strip unique.

How to use the plywood strips

  • Making lanterns in autumn: you build the frame from lightweight strips with the children – and on the evening of the lantern parade, a home-made lantern glows that really holds together.
  • In model making: you use struts and beams of exactly the same thickness – and your model stands straight without you having to measure every single part.
  • Making Christmas decorations: you paint narrow strips, saw them into hanging ornaments or build small frames – and your home gets handmade decorations instead of shop-bought ones.
  • Crafting money gifts: a decorated strip becomes a little presentation board – and your gift looks lovingly made rather than just tucked into an envelope.
  • In a shop or studio: you use the strips for labels, displays and decorative set-ups – with the large sets of up to 500, restocking stays easy to plan.

Good to know about plywood

Plywood consists of several thin layers of wood glued together crosswise. This makes it considerably more dimensionally stable than solid wood of the same thickness, and it hardly warps – which is exactly why it's so valued in model making and crafts, where straight, reliable parts matter.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint or varnish the strips? Yes. The wood is natural and untreated and can be painted, varnished, oiled or covered – whatever your project needs.

Do I need to sand the edges? No. Thanks to laser cutting, the edges are smooth and clean, so you can carry straight on.

Do all the strips look the same? The dimensions are identical, the look not quite: wood is a natural material, so grain and shade vary slightly, and small knots are normal.

Are other widths available besides 1 to 10 cm? Yes, on request we make them accurate to the millimetre in your custom size.

In the end, it's not about 5mm wood in strip form. It's about the moment your idea takes shape – the finished lantern, the sturdy model, the home-made decoration on the table. Simply choose the width and quantity that suit your project.
