Why this wooden cutout makes a difference in everyday life
A map on the wall can quickly look technical. A wooden outline feels softer and more personal. Use it as a quiet reminder of your last Baltic Sea holiday. Give it as a souvenir to Rügen fans. Or use it as the base for your next craft project. The cutout brings a piece of the island into your room without being intrusive. You choose the size and design yourself, so it ends up suiting you exactly.
Material & finish
The cutout is made from 3 mm poplar plywood. It is light enough to hang up and work with, yet keeps its shape. The outline is laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck. This creates smooth edges with the typical brown rim, which gives the motif a fine contour. The wood is untreated, not varnished or glazed. So you can paint it, oil it or decorate it, just as your project needs. Wood is a natural material, so every piece turns out a little different. Some are lighter, some darker, each with its own grain and occasionally small knots. That makes every cutout one of a kind.

How to use the Rügen cutout
- After your Baltic Sea holiday: paint the outline in shades of blue and white and mark your favourite beach. Now you have a memory on the wall that no photo print can replace.
- Crafting with children: each child designs their own little island. Along the way, they learn where Rügen is on the map.
- As a gift idea: attach a cutout with writing on it as a tag to a present for Rügen fans. The parcel tells a story before it's even unwrapped.
- In a holiday flat or guesthouse on the island: hang a large outline in the entrance or use small ones as room signs. Your guests feel at home from the very first moment.
- In a shop or at the weekly market: with sets from 10 pieces, you can make price tags, decorations or small items for sale with a regional link. They're quick to prepare and look consistent.
Good to know about the Isle of Rügen
Rügen is Germany's largest island. Its chalk cliffs have made it a place of longing ever since Caspar David Friedrich's paintings. Hardly any silhouette stands for a Baltic Sea holiday as much as this one. That's exactly why the outline works so well as a keepsake, guest gift or regional decoration. People recognise it at first glance.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. The untreated wood stays looking good for a long time if you keep it dry and protect it from constant moisture. If you want a more durable surface, simply paint, varnish or oil the cutout. That adds colour and protection in one step.

Frequently asked questions
Is the wood treated? No, the cutout is left natural – neither varnished nor glazed. So you can paint, oil, colour or decorate it however you like.
Where does the brown edge come from? The outline is laser-cut. This creates the typical brown colouring at the edges, which gives the motif a clear, fine contour. The edges are smooth and don't splinter.
How tall is the cutout at a given width? The height depends on the shape of the island. At a width of 10 cm, for example, it is 8.5 cm. Other widths scale accordingly.
Do all cutouts look the same? The shape is always identical, the wood is not. As a natural material, it varies in lightness and grain, and small knots may occur. This is not a flaw. It makes every piece unique.
What counts is the moment your eyes fall on the outline. For a second, you picture the gulls, the wind and the chalk cliffs again. Just choose your size – and bring Rügen home.
