Why this wooden scallop shell makes a difference every day
Seaside decorations work best with real materials. This is where wood stands apart from plastic motifs. The shell feels pleasant in your hand. It fits easily into window pictures, door wreaths or a summer table. You decorate it to suit your home: lightly painted, left natural or hung on a cord as a tag.
Material & finish
The scallop shell is laser-cut from 3mm poplar plywood in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. The laser cut gives clean, smooth edges and the typical fine brown rim. This rim is part of the process and outlines the motif. The contour lines are on the top side, and the underside is left natural. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. Variations in shade, small knots and fine textures in the grain are not flaws. They make every piece unique.

- On the summer table: scatter small shells between plates and candles. Your table will tell of holidays by the sea.
- On a door wreath or window picture: work in a few shells. Your entrance gets a seaside look for the summer.
- For money gifts: write on the shell or decorate it and attach it to the card. It makes a gift people remember.
- In a café, fishmonger's or at a market stall: place large shells up to 50cm in the shop window or on the counter. A seaside theme is set up in minutes. Sets of up to 100 pieces are enough even for extensive shop decorations.
Good to know about the scallop shell
Since the Middle Ages, the scallop shell has been the sign of pilgrims on the Way of St James. To this day, it marks the route to Santiago de Compostela. So the motif is not only for seaside decorations. It also makes a keepsake or a good-luck greeting for anyone setting off on a pilgrimage or returning from one.
Care & durability
Care is simple: wipe it with a dry cloth or dust it when needed. The wood is untreated, so avoid lasting moisture. If you want to use the shell outdoors, paint or oil it first. That way the surface stays as you decorated it for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint or decorate the shell? Yes. The wood is left natural and can be painted, decorated with paper, coated or oiled. It is ideal as a craft supply.
Are both sides decorated? No. The top side has the contour lines cut into it. The underside is natural and smooth.
Why does the shell have a brown rim? The rim comes from laser cutting and is typical of the process. It outlines the silhouette and is not a defect.
Does every shell look the same? The shape does, the wood not quite. As a natural material, it shows different shades, fine textures and sometimes small knots. Every piece is unique.
Is the shell suitable for outdoors? Untreated, it should be kept dry. With paint or oil, you can prepare it for sheltered outdoor areas.
This is more than a wooden cutout. It is the moment the painted shells hang in the window and a bit of the sea moves into your home. Just choose your size and quantity. You design the rest.
