Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong.Carnival season, the 'fifth season', is just around the corner. Brushes and paints are ready on the kitchen table. The children want to get started. And the club party still needs the right decorations. This wooden fool's cap is made for exactly that. Use a small fool's cap from 5 cm for gift tags, or a large one for the window. You paint it, stick things on it or decorate it however you like. The result is carnival decor that follows your own ideas.
What changes for you
- You start crafting straight away instead of cutting for ages. Every fool's cap arrives ready laser-cut with smooth edges.
- Your paints stick well because the poplar plywood is untreated. You can paint it, glue things on, varnish it or oil it.
- You'll find the right size for every idea. The width can be chosen from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- Your decorations last more than one season. Wood keeps its shape and copes with being put up and taken down much better than paper.
- Planning bigger projects is easy. The fool's cap is available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
Why this wooden fool's cap makes a difference in everyday use
Fasching and carnival should be colourful – but not random. The wooden motif gives you decorations that feel solid and smooth. They sit nicely in the hand. And they don't end up in the bin after one season. Hang it in the window, add it to a wreath or use it as a tag. The motif brings carnival spirit into the room straight away. You decide how it looks in the end.
Material & finish
The fool's cap is made from 3 mm untreated poplar plywood. It is laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. The laser cut gives clean, smooth edges. It also leaves the typical brown edge, which gives the motif a fine outline. The wood is neither varnished nor glazed, so it takes paint, glue and oil well. Wood is a natural material, so every cap turns out a little different. The shade varies, each has its own grain, and some have small knots. That makes every piece one of a kind.

How to use the jester's cap
- Crafting with children: each child paints their own cap. In the end, a colourful garland of one-of-a-kind pieces hangs in the children's room.
- In the window at carnival time: hang up a few motifs in different sizes. Carnival then greets everyone who walks past.
- For the club party: use small fool's caps as tags on glasses or place cards. Your guests find their seats and take home a keepsake.
- In a door wreath: tie them in between ribbons and colourful pieces. The wreath becomes a carnival greeting at the entrance.
- For bakeries, cafés or market stalls: at carnival time the motifs decorate the counter and display. They are quick to set up and present your seasonal goods with care.
Good to know about the jester's cap
For centuries, the fool's cap has been the mark of the fool. It is still part of the standard outfit of many carnival clubs today, for example as the headwear of the Council of Eleven. As a wooden silhouette, it brings this piece of tradition to windows, wreaths and festive tables – from Weiberfastnacht to Rose Monday.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Store the untreated cutouts in a dry place and avoid constant moisture. They will keep their shape and you can bring them out again year after year. If you paint or oil the wood, you give the surface extra protection.

Why is the edge brown? The cap is laser-cut. This creates the typical brown edge, which gives the motif a clear, clean outline.
Does every fool's cap look the same? The shape is identical, the wood is not. As a natural material, it varies in shade. It can show small irregularities in the grain or knots. Every piece is one of a kind.
